14Adjusting Blade Tension1. Disconnect machine from the powersource, unplug.2. Turn blade tension hand wheel (A, Fig. 18)counter-clockwise to tension blade, andclockwise to loosen the tension. A gauge onthe upper wheel slide bracket (B, Fig. 18)indicates the approximate tension accordingto the width of the blade. The JWBS-18comes with a 3/4” blade so the tensionshould be set at 3/4” when using this blade.• As you become familiar with the saw, youmay find it necessary to change the bladetension from the initial setting. Changes inblade width, and the type of material beingcut will have an effect on blade tension.• Keep in mind that too little, or too muchblade tension can cause blade breakageand/or poor cutting performance.Adjusting Blade Tracking WARNINGDisconnect machine from the power source!Never adjust blade tracking with themachine running!Failure to comply may cause serious injury!Note: Blade tracking has been adjusted at thefactory. If, however, it is determined that bladetracking needs adjustment:1. Blade must be properly tensioned beforeadjusting blade tracking. Make sure upperand, lower bearing guides do not interferewith the blade while adjusting the tracking.2. Open the upper wheel door. Rotate thewheel forward, and observe the position ofthe blade on the wheel. The blade shouldrest in approximately the center of thewheel.3. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the wingnut (C, Fig. 18) at the top rear of the saw.4. Adjust tracking by turning the knob (D, Fig.18) in 1/4 turn increments. Rotate the wheelforward, and observe the position of theblade on the wheel. Rotating knob (D, Fig.18) counter-clockwise should move theblade towards the front of the wheel.Rotating the knob clockwise should movethe blade towards the back of the wheel.5. Continue with adjustments until the blade istracking properly.6. Tighten the wing nut (C, Fig. 18).
