139.0 AdjustmentsThe settings on your band saw, such as bladesquareness and tracking, were carefully performedby the manufacturer. You should, however, verifythese before operating, in case misalignment hasoccurred during shipping.9.1 Squaring blade to table1. Disconnect machine from power source.2. Place machinist’s square (A, Figure 14) ontable and against blade.3. Check to see that blade contacts the squarealong entire width of blade.4. If adjustment is needed, loosen screws (B,Figure 14) and rotate blade guide assembliesuntil blade makes contact with square along itsentire width.5. Tighten screws (B).NOTE: If adjustment of squaring blade to table wasnecessary, re-verify all other blade adjustments.Figure 149.2 Squaring blade to vise1. Disconnect machine from power source.2. Place a machinist’s square (A, Figure 15) onthe bed against the blade and the fixed visejaw. The square should lie along entire lengthof jaw and blade without a gap.3. If adjustment is necessary, loosen screwsholding vise (C, Figure 15) and shift vise until italigns with square.4. Retighten screws.Figure 159.3 Vise positioningKeep hands away from bladewhile adjusting vise. Do not make anyadjustments to vise while the machine isrunning. The vise has a quick-release feature which allowsfast positioning of the floating jaw against theworkpiece, and then a final tightening with thehandwheel.1. Make sure fixed jaw (D, Figure 16) has beensquared (section 9.2, Squaring blade to vise).2. Position workpiece against fixed jaw.3. Loosen hexagonal stud (E) on floating jaw.4. Rotate handwheel (F) slightly counter-clockwise, then push floating jaw by hand untilit contacts workpiece and adjusts to its shape.5. Tighten stud (E).6. Use handwheel to tighten the clampingpressure. The quick release function can also be used toquickly disengage floating jaw when the cut isfinished.Figure 16
