8Do not modify the plug provided - if it will not fit theoutlet, have the proper outlet installed by a qualifiedelectrician.Improper connection of the equipment-groundingconductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Theconductor with insulation having an outer surfacethat is green with or without yellow stripes is theequipment-grounding conductor. If repair orreplacement of the electric cord or plug isnecessary, do not connect the equipment-groundingconductor to a live terminal.Check with a qualifiedelectrician or service personnel if the groundinginstructions are not completely understood, or ifin doubt as to whether the tool is properlygrounded. Failure to comply may cause seriousor fatal injury.Use only 3-wire extension cords that have 3-pronggrounding plugs and 3-pole receptacles that acceptthe tool's plug.Repair or replace damaged or worn cordimmediately.2. Grounded, cord-connected tools intended for useon a supply circuit having a nominal rating less than150 volts:This tool is intended for use on a circuit that has anoutlet that looks like the one illustrated in A, Figure7-1. An adapter, shown in B and C, may be used toconnect this plug to a 2-pole receptacle as shown inB if a properly grounded outlet is not available. Thetemporary adapter should be used only until aproperly grounded outlet can be installed by aqualified electrician. This adapter is not permitted inCanada. The green-colored rigid ear, lug, and thelike, extending from the adapter must be connectedto a permanent ground such as a properly groundedoutlet box.3. Grounded, cord-connected tools intended for useon a supply circuit having a nominal rating between150 - 250 volts, inclusive:This tool is intended for use on a circuit that has anoutlet that looks like the one illustrated in D, Figure7-1. A grounding plug may be installed, that lookslike the plug illustrated in D; or the grinder may be“hard-wired” to a panel, provided there is adisconnect for the operator.Make sure the tool is connected to an outlet havingthe same configuration as the plug. No adapter isavailable or should be used with this tool. If the toolmust be reconnected for use on a different type ofelectric circuit, the reconnection should be made byqualified service personnel; and after reconnection, the tool should comply with all local codes andordinances.7.2 Extension cordsThe use of extension cords is discouraged. Try toposition equipment near the power source. If anextension cord becomes necessary, use only three-wire extension cords that have three-pronggrounding type plugs and three-prong receptaclesthat accept the tool's plug. Replace or repairdamaged or worn cord immediately.Make sure your extension cord is good condition, and is heavy enough to carry the current yourproduct will draw. An undersized cord will cause adrop in line voltage resulting in loss of power andoverheating.Table 1 shows the correct size to use depending oncord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gage. The smaller the gagenumber (AWG), the heavier the cord.AmpereRating Volts Total length ofcord in feetMoreThanNotMoreThan120240255050100100200150300AWG0 6 18 16 16 146 10 18 16 14 1210 12 16 16 14 1212 16 14 12 NotRecommendedExtension Cord RecommendationsTable 17.3 Voltage conversionTo change voltage input to 230-volt on the IBG-8VSB Buffer, remove existing plug from power cableand attach a UL/CSA listed plug designed for 230Vpower.8.0 OperationBuffing wheels vary according to material andstructure, and range from aggressive wheels thateven out high spots and remove surface defects(“cutting”), to finer wheels that bring out the brilliantluster of the metal surface (“coloring”). The buffingwheel surface may be straight or biased (cut at anangle). The JET Buffer is provided with two buffing wheels:a full spiral-sewn wheel for general polishing ofmetals, and a looser or half spiral-sewn wheel forfinal polishing and coloring of metals.A compound (not provided) should be selected forthe specific wheel and work to be done. Generallyfor spiral-sewn cloth wheels, a brown (Tripoli),compound will be used for basic cutting andpolishing, followed by a white compound forcoloring. Red (Jeweller’s Rouge) compound is oftenused for further enhancement to gain a mirror-likesurface. Consult experienced metalworkers andonline resources for specific recommendations onbuffing wheels and their application.
