Contact your local AuthorizedJET Service Center or qualified electricianfor proper procedures to install the plug. The drill press must comply with all local andnational codes after the 230-volt plug isinstalled.4. The drill press with a 230-volt plug shouldonly be connected to an outlet having thesame configuration as shown in (D). Noadapter is available nor should be used withthe 230-volt plug.Figure 16Grounding InstructionsThis tool must be grounded while in use toprotect the operator from electric shock. In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance forelectric current to reduce the risk of electricshock. This tool is equipped with an electriccord having an equipment-grounding conductorand a grounding plug. The plug must beplugged into a matching outlet that is properlyinstalled and grounded in accordance with alllocal codes and ordinances.Do not modify the plug provided. If it will not fitthe outlet, have the proper outlet installed by aqualified electrician.Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk ofelectric shock. The conductor, with insulationhaving an outer surface that is green with orwithout yellow stripes, is the equipment-grounding conductor. If repair or replacement ofthe electric cord or plug is necessary, do notconnect the equipment-grounding conductor to alive terminal.Check with a qualified electrician or servicepersonnel if the grounding instructions are notcompletely understood, or if in doubt as towhether the tool is properly grounded. Use onlythree wire extension cords that have three-pronggrounding plugs and three-pole receptacles thataccept the tool’s plug.Repair or replace a damaged or worn cordimmediately.Extension CordsMake sure your extension cord is in goodcondition. When using an extension cord, besure to use one heavy enough to carry thecurrent your machine will draw. An undersizedcord will cause a drop in the line voltageresulting in power loss and overheating. Thetable following shows the correct size to usedepending on the cord length and nameplateampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heaviergauge. Remember, the smaller the gaugenumber, the heavier the cord.Length ofCord AWG0–25 1625-50 1451-100 12The drill press with a 230-volt plug should onlybe connected to an outlet having the sameconfiguration (D, Fig. 16). If you are not sure, have a registeredelectrician check the receptacle.
