116. MaintenanceIn order to avoid damage to the cleaner, onlyuse products that have been approved byKärcher.• Fully dissolve the contents of one bag ofKärcher Biological Decalcifier RM 511 in onelitre of warm water.• Pour this solution into the boiler and leave itto react for approx. 8 hours.Do not screw the safety cap (A2) onto the cle-aner while you are descaling the boiler. Do notuse the cleaner if there is any descaling liquidleft inside the boiler.• After the period of soaking, pour the des-caling solution out of the boiler. A smallamount will remain inside, therefore youshould flush the boiler out with cold watertwo or three times in order to remove all tra-ces of the decalcifying agent.• The steam cleaner is now ready for useagain.6.2 Care of accessories• Allow all accessories to dry out thoroughlybefore you store them for use another time.• Do not stand the floor nozzle (G1), handnozzle (F1) and circular brush (E1) on theirbristles while they are cooling down anddrying out, otherwise they could becomedeformed.• Floor cloth and terry-towelling slip-on havebeen pre-washed and can be used imme-diately with the steam cleaner.• Dirty floor cloths and terry-towelling slip-onscan be placed in a washing machine at60 °C and dried in a tumble dryer. Do notuse a liquid softener as this would impair theability of the cloths to pick up dirt.6.3 What to do if a problem occurs• If a problem occurs with your steam cleaner, contact your local Kärcher service agent(see address list on backside).7. Safety devicesThis steam cleaner is equipped with severalsafety devices which provide multiple levels ofsafety. The most important safety devices aredescribed below.7.1 Pressure controllerThe pressure controller maintains the level ofpressure inside the boiler as constant as pos-sible. When the maximum operating pressureinside the boiler of 2.7 bar is reached, the hea-ter is switched off. When steam is drawn offand the pressure drops, the heater is switchedon again.7.2 Low-water thermostatAs the water in the boiler is used up, the tem-perature of the heater increases. The low-wa-ter thermostat switches the heater off and thered low-water warning lamp illuminates. Theheater is prevented from switching on againuntil the boiler has either cooled down or hasbeen refilled with water.7.3 Safety thermostatIf the low-water thermostat fails and the clea-ner overheats, the safety thermostat willswitch off the cleaner. Contact your localKärcher service agent so that the safety ther-mostat can be reset.7.4 Safety capThe safety cap seals in the steam pressure asit builds up inside the boiler. If the pressurecontroller is defective and the steam pressureinside the boiler rises above 4.0 bar, an over-pressure valve opens inside the safety capand steam is discharged into the open. Con-tact your local Kärcher service agent beforeyou attempt to use the cleaner again.
