GB - 29Connection Power Unit2.6.3 Selection of the motor cableCorrect selection and wiring of the motor cable is very important for high motor ratings:• lower abrasion of the motor bearings by leakage currents• improved EMC characteristics• lower symmetrical operating capacities• less losses by transient currentsP i c t u r e2.6.3Cross section of a shielded motor cable with tripartited protective earth conduc-torPEPEPEVUWIt is recommended to use symmetric shielded motor cablesat high motor ratings (>30 kW). At these cables the protectiveearth conductor is tripartited and uniformly placed betweenthe phase lines.A cable without protective earth conductor can be used ifthe local regulations allow this. Then this protective earthconductor must be placed externally. Certain cables acceptalso the shielding as protective earth conductor.Pay attention to the data of the cable manufacturer!2.6.4 Connection of the motorAs a standard the connection of the motor must be carried out in accordance with the followingtable:Table 2.6.4 Connection of the motor230/400 V motor 400/690 V motor230 V 400 V 400 V 690 VDelta Star Delta StarPicture 2.6.4.2 Picture 2.6.4.1 Picture 2.6.4.2 Picture 2.6.4.1The connecting-up instructions of the motor manufacturer are generally valid !Protect motoragainstvoltage peaks !Frequency inverters switch at the output with a dv/dt of approx.5kV/us. Especially at long motor lines (>15m) this may damagethe insulation system of the motor at high voltage peaks. The motor can be protected by a motor choke, dv/dt filter or sinefilter.
