3130Adjusting the FeetUnder normal circumstances your subwoofer will becommissioned by your retailer or consultant, whowill have been trained in their installation by KEF.KEF strongly recommend that you donot attempt to level your loudspeakerssingle-handed. Recruit the assistance of anotheradult - or consult an authorised KEF Referenceoutlet for assistance which may be chargeable if thepurchase was not made through them originally. The feet and locking nut combination supplied isdesigned to provide small adjustments, not tocompensate for seriously irregular floors.Best results will be obtained if the subwoofer islevel and stable. Check the general stability of thesubwoofer by gently rocking it from side to side,front-to-back and diagonally. Adjust the height ofeach foot to ensure that the subwoofer does notrock at all.Subwoofer PositioningThe listening room is one of the most variableelements in the hi-fi chain and its effect cannot beemphasised too strongly, nor can its effects bereliably predicted. As the sub-bass (low frequency) sound producedby the subwoofer is close to omni-directional,positioning of the subwoofer is less critical thanwith full range conventional speakers. However, it is advised that the subwoofer is notpositioned too close to the listener. It is often recommend that subwoofers are notplaced in the corners of the room, near softfurnishings (which will deaden the sound) or nearreflective surfaces (which may brighten up thesound). As all rooms are different it is best to experimentwith the location of the subwoofer until you arehappy with the sound.KEF recommend you move the Reference Series208 subwoofer into a few acceptable positionsand compare the sound. Pick the location whichgives the most satisfying sound available fromthe room.K7262 REF 209208 Combined Manual_v2 12/2/08 12:40 Page 30
