MPS / MTS / MXS / MWS-BAPS-e-1710 438.4 Mother/Child FunctionThe “Mother/Child” function makes it possible to determine the body weight of infantsand small children held in an adult’s arms. Turn on the scales using the [ON/OFF] switch. The scales enters the self-diagnostic mode. The device is ready for operation as soon as “0.00 kg” isshown on the weight display. Position the adult person in the middle of the scales platform. After showingthe stability indicator, the scales displays the person’s weight. A triangle sym-bol is shown under the “WEIGHT” symbol. Press the [TARE] button and the readout changes to “0.00 kg”. Place the child in the arms of the adult person. After showing the stability indi-cator, the scales displays the child’s weight. The triangle symbol is now dis-played under the “NET” symbol. Press the [TARE] button again and the readout again changes to “0.00 kg”. After stepping off the scales, the total weight of the adult person and the childis displayed as a negative value. Press the [TARE] button again. The saved tare value is cancelled and thescales can be used for weighing again.8.5 Determination of Body Mass IndexWhen you obtain a stable weight and display shows 0.0 kg, place a person in themiddle of the scale plate. Wait until the weighing value is stable. Then press the BMIkey. Now enter a body height.Please take note that reliable determination of BMI index is only possible for bodyheight from 100 cm to 250 cm and weight > 10 kg.A body height entered as the last one is flashing on the display. Now you can enter adifferent value with the numerical keypad. Confirm the entered value with theENTER key, and then a person’s BMI index will be displayed.When the BMI index value is displayed, it is presented with the arrow pointing theBMI symbol. To return to the weighing mode, press the BMI key once again and thearrow at the BMI symbol will disappear.
