Troubleshooting - Electronic IgnitionProblem (Ignition)SECTION INo sparks appear atany electrodes whenElectronic IgnitionButton is pressed; nonoise can be heardfrom spark module.SECTION IISECTION IIISparks are presentbut not at allelectrodes and/or notat full strengthPossible Cause• Battery not installedproperly.• Dead battery.• Button assembly notinstalled properly.• Faulty spark module.• Output leadconnections notconnected.• Output leadconnections notconnected.• Arcing to grill awayfrom burner(s).• Weak battery.• Electrodes are wet.• Electrodes cracked orbroken “sparks atcrack”.Check Procedure• Check battery orientation.• Has battery been usedpreviously?• Check to insure threads areproperly engaged. Buttonshould travel up and downwithout binding.• If no sparks are generatedwith new battery and goodwire connections, module isfaulty.• Are output connections onand tight?• Are output connections onand tight?• If possible, observe grill indark location. Operateignition system and look forarcing between output wiresand grill frame.• All sparks present but weakor at slow rate.• Has moisture accumulatedon electrode and/or inburner ports?• Inspect electrodes forcracks.Prevention/Solution• Install battery (make sure that “+” and “–”connectors are oriented correctly, with “+” end upand “–” end down.)• Replace battery with new AA-size alkaline battery.• Unscrew button cap assembly and reinstall, making sure threads are aligned and engagedfully.• Replace spark module assembly.• Remove and reconnect all output connections atmodule and electrodes.• Remove and reconnect all output connections atmodule and electrodes.• If sparks are observed other than from burner(s),wire insulation may be damaged. Replace wires.• Replace battery with a new AA-size alkalinebattery.• Use paper towel to remove moisture.• Replace cracked or broken electrodes. No sparks appear atany electrodes whenElectronic IgnitionButton is pressed; noisecan be heard fromspark module.32 • 466226313
