4-2. RECEIVE4-2-1. Microprocessor back-up batteryThe R-5000 has a rechargeable back-up battery which ischarged automatically while the AC power cable is con-nected to an AC outlet. It takes about 6 hours to rechargea deeply discharged battery using the AC power cable. Ifyou suspect the battery is not charged when you purchasethe R-5000 or the radio performs erratically, perform the"A = B (reset)" procedure described in section 4-2-2. Thebattery will last about 10 days with the AC power cabledisconnected.4-2-2. Microprocessor resetWhen the microprocessor has functioned erroneously orwhen installing the transceiver, switch on the power withthe A = B key pressed.Note:The microprocessor can be easily reset. However, onlyperform this operation when necessary since the contentsof the operated programmed memory are cleared by reset-ting. It can take a little while to reprogram 100 memorychannels!4-2-3. Audible mode announcementWhen a Mode key is pressed, the first character of themode is sounded in Morse code thru the speadker. If theFSK mode key is pressed, R for RTTY instead FSK will beannounced.1. Preset the controls as shown in the accompanying il-lustration.2. Place the POWER switch ON.3. The meter will illuminate and a frequency will appear inthe display.Notes:1. If the M. CH indicator lights, press the VFO/M key toselect VFO operation.2. If the F. LOCK indicator lights, press the F.LOCK keyto unlock the radio.4. Select the desired mode using one of the MODE keys.5. Adjust the AF gain control for the desired volume.6.
