88 Keysight 81618A/9A and Keysight 81620B/3B/4B/6B/8B Optical Heads User’s Guide5 Cleaning InformationCleaning Instructions for this DeviceThis Cleaning Information applies to a number of different types of OpticalEquipment.Sections of particularly relevance to the following devices arecross-referenced below.81000xA Optical Head AdaptersWhen using optical head adapters, periodically inspect the optical head'sfront window (see How to clean connector adapters on page 100 forcleaning procedures). Dust and metal particles can be propelled throughthe adapter's pinhole while inserting the connector ferrule into thereceptacle. These dirt particles collect on the head's front window and, ifnot removed, can lead to incorrect measurement results.8162xx Optical Power HeadsPeriodically inspect the optical head's front window for dust and otherparticles (see How to clean instruments with an optical glass plate onpage 104 for cleaning procedures). These can be propelled through theoptical head adapter's pinhole while inserting a connector ferrule into thereceptacle. Particles on the optical head's front window can significantlyimpair measurement results.Safety PrecautionsPlease follow the following safety rules:• Do not remove instrument covers when operating.• Ensure that the instrument is switched off throughout the cleaningprocedures.• Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures otherthan those specified may result in hazardous radiation exposure.• Make sure that you disable all sources when you are cleaning anyoptical interfaces.• Under no circumstances look into th e end of an optical device attachedto optical outputs when the device is operational. The laser radiation isnot visible to the human eye, but it can seriously damage your eyesight.• To prevent electrical shock, disconnect the instrument from the mainsbefore cleaning. Use a dry cloth, or one slightly dampened with water,to clean the external case parts. Do not attempt to clean internally.
