USER MANUAL Tractor semitrailers PTL 102.3.1. General requirements for work safety1. Attach the semi-trailer to the hydraulic-assisted hook installed at the tail of the tractor or to the hitchloop.2. When attaching and detaching the semi-trailer, be attentive because there may be hazard of injurydue to the lifting or compressing force that has formed at the hitch. If the manual brake of the semi-trailer is not turned on, it is prohibited to stay between the tractor and semi-trailer or behind the semi-trailer.3. When connecting the hydraulic, pneumatic, and electricity systems of the semi-trailer to therespective systems of the tractor, the engine must be shut down and the engine ignition key must bepulled out.4. Before beginning work, check the following:– The reliability of the connection of the semi-trailer to the tractor. The hitch pin must besecured.– The reliability of the connection of the hydraulic system and pneumatic system;– The reliability of the connection and technical condition of the light signalling system andbrake system;– The tyre pressure (refer to Table 2);– The sufficiency of visibility and absence of people in the vicinity before driving;– The possible radius of turning of the tractor with the semi-trailer without hindering with thedrawbar the other parts of the suspension system of the tractor.5. The following shall be PROHIBITED when working with the semi-trailer:– To work without having familiarised oneself with the design of the semi-trailer and work safetyrequirements;– To start the hydraulic, pneumatic, and electricity systems of the semi-trailer without havingchecked the reliability of the connection of the semi-trailer to the tractor;– To work under the lifted body without having supported it with the mechanical supportintended for the purpose. The body must be empty, the engine of the tractor must be shutdown and the engine ignition key must be pulled out.– To work under the lifted tail gate without having secured it with hydraulic locks;– To work with non-operating brakes of the semi-trailer;– To work with broken down light signalling;– To tow the semi-trailer at a speed above 40 km/h;– To tow the semi-trailer when the body is lifted because it may overturn;– To exceed the maximum permissible total weight of the semi-trailer established in Article 17of the EU Regulation No 167/2013.– To tip the body at a site with a gradient of more than 5° in the transverse direction or with anon-solid surface (the wheels get stuck).Attention! In order to avoid overloading, refer to the densities of the main materials to be transportedset out in Table 11.6. Tip or lift the body only when:– The semi-trailer is connected to the tractor;– The semi-trailer stands on a solid and even surface;– No people are present in the place of unloading;– There are no high lateral winds;– The distance from above-ground electricity transmission lines is safe.Where it is necessity to tip the body at a slope, the tractor with the trailer must stand in the directionof the slope.7. Drive carefully because the vertical load transferred by the semi-trailer to the tractor may affectmanoeuvrability.8. Choose the driving speed according to the environmental conditions. Avoid sharp turns when drivinguphill or downhill.
