Fan modules are individually installed.IMPORTANT INFO: A faulty cooling fan must be replaced by afully operational fan within 72 hours. Do not remove the faulty mod-ule until you have a replacement module of the same type available.8.3.2.1. Removing a Cooling FanCAUTION: The enclosure top cover should only be opened byservice personnel as it provides access to a service area. Potentialhazards include rotating fans and hot surfaces.CAUTION: Upon module replacement, the enclosure top coverMUST be secured by turning the lock mechanism to the “locked”position with a screwdriver.1. To access the ten cooling fans, release the enclosure top coverby turning the lock mechanism to the “unlocked” position andslide the cover back until it stops (see Fig. 35).CAUTION: Make sure the fan has stopped rotating before you at-tempt to remove it: there is a risk of trapping or cutting fingers.2. Grip the faulty fan module with finger and thumb and pull itupwards in order to unplug it from the EM Card and remove itfrom the enclosure (see Fig. 36).Fig. 35 - Removing the Enclosure CoverFig. 36 - Removing a Cooling Fan8.3.2.2. Installing a Cooling Fan1. Check the fan for damage. Do not install if there are any visiblesigns of damage.2. Grip the fan and push it all the way into the enclosure until it fitsfirmly and is level with the other fans (see Fig. 37). The fan plugsinto the EM Card.3. Make sure that the fan LED extinguishes within 10 seconds ofinstallation.4. Repeat the above procedure for each fan to be fitted.Fig. 37 - Cooling Fan Installation5. Close the enclosure cover and secure by turning the lock mech-anism to the “locked” position.8.3.3. Drive Carrier ModuleCAUTION: Observe all conventional ESD precautions when han-dling 12big Rack Storage Server modules and components. Avoidcontact with backplane components and module connectors, etc.
