6 PLM Series Quick Start and Field Reference Guide5 INsTAllATONPLM Series products have no top or bottom vents;therefore units may be safely stacked directly on topof each other.See the PLM Series operation Manual section 13.2for more information about mechanical installationand examples of rack mounting arrangements.5.3 Rear Mountingtwo rear support brackets, plus mountinghardware, are included with the PLM (figure 5.3).it is recommended that these are used whereverpossible. they should be fitted to vertical rack railsat the rear of the rack. Refer to figures 5.3a and 5.3bfor details of their installation.note that the support brackets are reversible andmay be fitted to point either to the front or rear ofthe rack. the orientation used in a particular situationwill depend on the depth of the rack.x2x2 x2x2Figure 5.3a: Rear support mounting hardwaretwo mounting methods are possible; note that themethod shown in figure 5.3b additionally providesextra security against unauthorized removal. Forsituations where rapid removal and replacement ofunits is of paramount importance, the method shownin figure 5.3c may be used as it does not involve anypermanently secured fixing at the rear of the unit.5.1 UnpackingCarefully open the shipping carton and check for anydamage to the PLM or the supplied accessories.Every Lab.gruppen product is tested and inspectedbefore leaving the factory and should arrive in per-fect condition. if any damage is discovered, pleasenotify the shipping company immediately. only theconsignee may initiate a claim with the carrier or theirinsurers for damage incurred during shipping. Racks containing PLM units mustnot have any covering (such as doors or lids) thatcould impede air flow while in operation.always allow sufficient space at the rear of the PLMto permit efficient air exit (see section 6.4) and toaccommodate rear connectors and cables. also,allowance must be made for cable or loom bendswithin a rack. in particular, the mains cable (aC cord)and its neutrik ® PowerCon ® connector require atleast 120 mm (4.75 inches) clear rack depth behindthe PLM’s rear panel.
