If thishappens while you are in the middle of a sanding job you may aswell finish a half-trodden path first. If you do not clean the filter cartridge in spite of the red lightindicating that this is necessary, the suction performance willbecome less and less efficient with time, and the dust emissionwill increase. This, of course, will mean a higher health risk forthe machine operator. Furthermore, the cleaning of filter cartridgeand dust separator will prove troublesome and time-consuming.To clean the filter cartridge proceed as follows:1 Switch off the machine and pull the power plug out of thesocket!2 Grasp and turn the wing nut on top of the dust separator andgently pull it upwards, moving the cleaning slide integratedin the dust separator (fig. 61).3 Now push the cleaning slide gently back down while stillcontinuously turning the wing nut. You will see dust droppinginto the dust bag.4 Repeat this process several times until no more dust dropsinto the dust bag.5 Once you have finished cleaning, make sure the cleaningslide is pushed as deeply as possible back into the dustseparator (fig. 62, 1). Otherwise the filter cartridge will beburdened with more dust than necessary and will have tobe cleaned more often.6 Insert the power plug into the mains socket (fig. 62, 2). Youcan now switch the machine back on again (fig. 62, 3).If you didn’t succeed in cleaning the filter cartridge with thecleaning slide or if the intervals in between cleaning become tooshort, your filter cartridge is probably clogged with deposits suchas old varnish or glue residue and must be dismantled for thoroughcleaning. Section 7.3, Changing the filter cartridge describes theremoving and mounting of the filter cartridge.41
