Dig another 24" and again raiseauger up except this time keep auger turning tolessen the strain on the equipment. Stop raisingauger within 1 to 2 feet of being out of the hole andlower it back down to continue digging. Repeat thisprocedure until hole is at its final depth.9. Allow auger to turn several revolutions at final depth. With auger still turning, raise auger up to within 1 to 2feet of being out of the hole. Stop auger rotation andcontinue to raise auger out of the hole.10. If connected to a front loader, roll tilt arms into a lowcarry position; and if connected to a 3-point hitch, raise auger fully up before transporting from onedigging site to the next. Be careful to watch out forpeople, obstructions, and uneven terrain.General OperationBy now you should have thoroughly read your Operator’sManual, properly installed your Post Hole Digger ontoyour machine and performed your pre-start andoperational running checklist. If you plan to dig holesimmediately, you should have also contacted your localutility companies to make sure it is safe to dig where youplan to work. If you haven’t done all of the things justdescribed above, please stop and do them now. This is amust for your safety and the safety of others. Now that you are properly briefed, your Post Hole Diggeris properly installed, and you have the proper diggingauthorization from the utility companies, it’s time totransport to the work site. Make sure that the Post HoleDigger is in the raised position and not in contact with theground. If you have an extensive distance to travel, youmay want to secure the auger with ropes, slings, orchains to prevent swinging and damage during transport.Select a safe speed and transport to your digging site insuch a manor that faster moving vehicles can pass yousafely. A slow moving vehicle sign should be employed ifyou are using a public road or right-of-way.Once you have safely arrived at your digging site, position your tractor so that the auger is directly over thespot where you want to dig a hole. Make sure youroperator protective shield or safety door is securely inplace. Lower auger to a point where the auger clears theground by approximately 12". Do not operate the diggerwhen the auger is more than 12" above ground level orthe auger could bind or swing erratically causing injury tothe operator and damage to the equipment.IMPORTANT: Some tractors have a hydraulic reliefvalve to protect the equipment. This valve will openin a stalled situation and allow oil to bypass. Checkyour tractor Operator’s Manual to see if it isequipped with a relief valve. With the engine at idle, engage hydraulic circuit and raiseengine RPM to operate at the recommended hydraulicflow to a point where the auger is turning at a speed ofapproximately 85 to 100 RPM. (Refer to “Gallons perminute rating” on page 34 for recommended hydraulicflow) Do not operate the auger at speeds over 110 RPMor damage to the Post Hole Digger and skid steer/tractorcould result. Using the controls, lower the auger into theground until the desired depth is achieved and then raisethe spinning auger back up to remove extraneous soil.Once the hole is completed, disengage hydraulic drivecircuit, raise auger to a point where the auger tip isapproximately 12" off of the ground, release the parkbrake, and move away from the hole.If an obstacle is encountered that stalls the auger, reverse auger rotation and lift up to clear the obstacle.Periodically adjust the machine’s position to keep theauger and hole vertical. Be careful not to damagegearbox or auger. Before dismounting your tractor; you must always set thepark brake, lower Auger to the ground, turn off themachine, and remove the ignition key. If you must park ona hillside, you should always chock the tractor wheels foran extra measure of safety. With a little practice and experience you should becomevery good at operating your Land Pride HD25 or HD35Series Post Hole Digger.See “Specifications & Capacities” on page 34 and“Features & Benefits” on page 37 for additionalinformation on performance enhancing options. |
