With careful and systematic inspection, you can avoid costly maintenance, time and repair. After using your cutter for several hours, check all boltsto be sure they are tight.Replace any worn, damaged or illegible safety labels byobtaining new labels from your Land Pride Dealer.Service Cutting Blades2. Both blades should be sharpened at the same angleas the original cutting edge and must be replaced orre-ground at the same time to maintain properbalance in the cutting unit.3. Both blades should weigh the same aftersharpening.4. When replacing or sharpening the cutter blades, examine bolts for excessive wear and replace ifnecessary. To replace blades:h. Order blade bolt Land Pride part # 802-277C.i. Torque blade bolt lock nut to 450 ft. pounds. Anextended cheater bar may be required to achieveproper torque. If replacing dishpan, nut on gearbox output shaft shouldbe torqued to 450 foot/pounds and cotter pin installed innut with legs securely bent around nut.Driveline Protection! CAUTIONEngage parking brake, disengage PTO, shut off tractor, andremove key before making any of the following adjustments.Cutter drive components are protected from shock loadsby either a two plate friction clutch or a shear bolt. Avoidshear bolt failure by engaging the PTO slowly at lowengine rpm. See your Land Pride Dealer when replacingshear bolts.NOTE: Care should be taken in order not to removeany more material than necessary when sharpeningblades.IMPORTANT: Replace blades with genuine LandPride blades only. Blades must be ordered andreplaced in pairs.Shear Bolt, Nut & Jam Nut Part NumbersPart No. Part Description802-264C HHCS 1/2-13X3 1/2 GR2803-020C NUT HEX 1/2-13 PLT803-036C NUT HEX JAM 1/2-13 PLTClutch Run-InFriction clutches should be “run-in” prior to initialoperation and after long periods of inactivity. To preventdriveline and gearbox damage, repeat “Run-In”instructions at the beginning of each season and whenmoisture and/or condensation seizes the inner frictionplates.Refer to Figure 4-1:1. Using a pencil or other marker scribe a line across theexposed edges of the clutch plates and friction disks.2. Carefully loosen each of the 8 spring retainer nuts byexactly 2 revolutions. It will be necessary to hold thehex end of the retainer bolt in order to count the exactnumber of revolutions.3. Start the tractor and engage the driveline drive for2-3 seconds to permit slippage of the clutchsurfaces. Disengage the driveline, then re-engage asecond time for 2-3 seconds. Disengage driveline, shut off tractor and remove key. Wait for allcomponents to stop before dismounting from tractor.Clutch Run-InFigure 4-14. Inspect the clutch and ensure that the scribedmarkings made on the clutch plates have changedposition. Slippage has not occurred if any two markson the friction disk and plate are still aligned. A clutchthat has not slipped must be disassembled toseparate the friction disk plates. See ClutchDisassembly to disassemble clutch.5. Tighten each of the 8 spring retainer nuts on theclutch housing exactly 2 revolutions to restore theclutch to the original setting pressure.6. The clutch should be checked during the first hour oftilling and periodically each week. An additional setof scribe marks can be added to check for slippage.See Clutch Assembly to adjust for proper springlength.13693Section 4: Maintenance and Lubrication
