-16-wheels should be properly cleaned, resin residuesand chips should be removed if necessary.Replace the saw blade with teeth pointing in direc-tion of rotation (see arrow on the wheel) and tightenit by turning the star handle 6 clockwise. Correct ten-sion is reached when the built-in clutch disconnects.Turn wheel in direction of rotation (see arrow onwheel) and adjust blade by turning the star knobscrew 47 until the rear end of the saw blade justtouches the 4 blade stop blocks 100. If the band sawblade should not touch the upper or lower blade stopblock – in spite of an adjustment by means of thestar knob screw – the slipping clutch must beadjusted as follows: Loosen blade tension completely by turning starhandle 6 left. Establish distance «X» between base plate and anyof the edges of the tiltable blade guiding block. This distance will be reduced by 4 mm (5/32 in.)minimum to 6 mm (15/64 in.) maximum if theblade is tensioned by means of the star handle. If this distance is reduced by more than 6 mm(15/64 in.) or less than 4 mm (5/32 in.) the slip-ping clutch inside star handle 6 must beadjusted with the Allen key SW 6 (6 mm) untilthe slipping clutch reacts within this tolerance of4 to 6 mm (5/32 to 15/64 in.). (Turn left todecrease, turn right to increase the tension ofthe blade.). Then set the blade position with the star-shapedhandle screw 79. Ensure that the saw blade rearslightly touches the blade stop blocks 82 / slot-ted bolts 137 or passes them. For a final check loosen and tighten star handle6 once again until the slipping clutch reacts. Atthe same time, it must be checked that theclearance between base plate and roller hous-ing has been reduced by 4-6 mm (5/32 to 15/64in.).4 Operation4.1 Switching on and off• Switching on: Push locking slide 24 (Fig. 3)upwards, then press switch 80 on the side marked«I».• Switching off: Press the red button 20. If the but-ton is continuously pressed, the saw blade isbraked to standstill. Put machine aside only, whenswitch is in off position.4.2 Operating instructionsWhen sawing please ensure that the machine isfirmly placed on the timber to be cut and use bothhands to keep it under control.4.3 Tilting saw bladePush lever 21 (Fig. 2) forward completely: Saw bladetilts continuously up to 30° (Fig. 3) to the right com-pared to the shaft of the saw blade wheel. In this posi-tion it is possible to cross-cut timber at a right angle inany position up to a thickness of 9 cm (3 9/16 in.). Pulllever back: Saw blade returns to basic zero position.4.4 Changing the Z 5 E / Z 4 E to a «two-man-saw»The Z 5 Ec / Z 4 Ec may be handled by two personsas a «two-man-saw». First screw back both handles7 (Fig. 4) at the motor by turning them to the left, until they can be turned upwards by 90°. Thentighten the hinge pieces in this position. Turn therubber stop 156 to the left by 3 rotations and removeit from the groove. Insert the handle, from the sup-plied accessory, into the groove and tighten it.For a clear view of the cut the base plate may beremoved. For this purpose the saw blade must beremoved first (see paragraph «Changing and adjust-ing saw blades»). The base plate can be removedby unscrewing the wing screw 61. Make sure thatthe saw blade is properly fitted again and that thetwo blade guards are replaced in position. Themachine has to be guided by the person holdingboth handles. Of course, the saw blade can also betilt up to 30° to the right with lever 21.Belt protection or top and bottomcover must always be attached.Only use saw blades which are either6 or 8 mm (1/4 or 5/16 in.) wide!Do not switch on the machine if thesaw blade is touching the workpiece.
