615. Disconnect toolsWhen not in use, before servicing, and whenchanging accessories such as blades, bits andcutters.16. Remove adjusting keys and wrenchesForm the habit of checking to see that keys andadjusting wrenches are removed from tool beforeturning it on.17. Avoid unintentional startingDon’t carry plugged-in tool with finger on switch.Be sure switch is off when plugging in.18. Outdoor use extension cordsWhen tool is used outdoors, use only extensioncords intended for use outdoors and so marked.19. Stay alertWatch what you are doing. Use common sense.Do not operate tool when you are tired.20. Check damaged partsBefore further use of the tool, a guard or otherpart that is damaged should be carefully checkedto determine that it will operate properly and per-form its intended function. Check for alignment ofmoving parts, binding of moving parts, breakageof parts, mounting, and any other conditions thatmay affect its operation. A guard or other partthat is damaged should be properly repaired orreplaced by an authorized service center unlessotherwise indicated elsewhere in this instructionmanual. Have defective switches replaced byand authorized service center. Do not use tool ifswitch does not turn it on and off.21. Have your tool repaired by an expertThis electric appliance is in accordance with therelevant safety rules. Repairing of electric appli-ances may be carried out only by experts other-wise it may cause considerable danger for theuser.ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES1. Rags, cloth, cord, string and the like shouldnever be left around the work area.2. Avoid cutting nails. Inspect for and remove allnails from the workpiece before operation.3. Handle the blades very carefully.4. Be sure the blade installation bolts are securelytightened before operation.5. Hold the tool firmly with both hands.6. Keep hands away from rotating parts.7. Before using the tool on an actual workpiece, letit run for a while. Watch for vibration or wobblingthat could indicate poor installation or a poorlybalanced blade.8. Make sure the blade is not contacting the work-piece before the switch is turned on.9. Wait until the blade attains full speed before cut-ting.10. Keep at least 200 mm away from the tool at alltimes.11. Always switch off and wait for the blades tocome to a complete stop before any adjusting.12. Never stick your finger into the chip chute. Chutemay jam when cutting damp wood. Clean outchips with a stick.13. Do not leave the tool running. Operate the toolonly when hand-held.14. When leaving the planer, switch off and set itwith the front base up on a wooden block, sothat the blades do not contact anything.15. Always change both blades or covers on thedrum, otherwise the resulting imbalance willcause vibration and shorten tool life.16. Wait for complete run-down before putting thetool aside.17. Use only Makita blades specified in this manual.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSRemoving or installing planer blades(Fig. 1, 2 & 3)Important:• Always be sure that tool is switched off and unpluggedbefore removing or installing the blade.• Use the following planer blades.Part Nos. 793186-4*P-04254Blades with * mark are available in European countriesonly. Consult your dealer or the Makita Service Centerwhen purchasing blades.To remove the blades on the drum, unscrew the fiveinstallation bolts with the hex wrench. The drum covercomes off together with the blades.To install the blades, first clean out all chips or foreignmatter adhering to the drum or blades. Use blades of thesame dimensions and weight, or drum oscillation /vibra-tion will result, causing poor planing action and eventu-ally tool breakdown.There are two adjusting screws for each blade. Wheninstalling the blade, the notch in the blade should fit overthe head of the adjusting screw. Then fit on the drumcover and secure the five bolts only finger-tight.Turn the drum until the blade edge is right in the middlebetween the front and rear bases.Place the triangular rule flat on the rear base and run itout over and across the blade edge. Turn the two adjust-ing screws to adjust the blade protrusion. The blade set-ting should be made so that the protrusion will be uniformall the way across. Thus the triangular rule should beflush with the entire width of the blade edge. After adjust-ing both blades, tighten the five installation bolts evenlyand alternately with the hex wrench.After tightening the bolts, secure the adjusting screwsfully.CAUTION:Tighten the blade installation bolts carefully when attach-ing the blades to the tool. A loose installation bolt can bedangerous. Always check to see they are tightenedsecurely. |
