7ASSEMBLYCAUTION: Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.Replacing bladesCAUTION: Handle the blades very carefully when removing orinstalling the blades to prevent cuts or injury fromthe blades and to prevent damage to the blades.They are razor-sharp. Clean out all chips, dust, pitch or foreign matteradhering to the drum or blades before installing theblades. Use blades of the same dimensions and weight , ordrum oscillation/vibration will result, causing poorcutting action and eventually, tool breakdown. Replace both blades at the same time. The disposable-type blade has a cutting edge onboth sides. When one cutting edge becomes dull,you can use the other cutting edge. Always removeresin and dirt sticking to the reverse side of theblade before using the other cutting edge. Thisblade must not be re-sharpened. When both cuttingedges become dull, the blade should be carefullythrown away.1. Removing bladesLoosen the thumb screw which secures the chip coverand remove the chip cover. Remove the screws whichsecure the right side cover. Then remove the right sidecover. Turn the pulley until the drum can be locked in theposition whereby the blade installation bolts face upward.Fig.8For throw away blades onlyPlace the two magnetic holders on the set plate and pushthem in the direction of the arrow until the claw contactthe blade. Remove the six blade installation bolts usingthe socket wrench. Grip the magnetic holders and raisethem straight up to remove the set plate and the bladefrom the drum. Press the lock plate and turn the pulley180° to lock the drum. Remove the other blade asdescribed above.Fig.9Fig.10For standard blades onlyRemove the six installation bolts using the socket wrench.Raise the set plate and blade straight up to remove themfrom the drum. Press the lock plate and rotate the drumby turning the pulley 180° to lock the drum. Remove theother blade as described above. Remove the set platefrom the blade.Fig.11Fig.121. Installing bladesCAUTION: Use only Makita socket wrench provided to tightenthe blade installation bolts. The use of any othersocket wrench may cause overtightening orinsufficient tightening of the bolts, resulting insevere injury.For throw away blades onlyProvide a flat wood block approximately 300 mm longand 100 mm wide. Place the blade and the set plate onthe wood block so that the blade locating lug of the setplate rests in the groove of the blade. Adjust the set plateso that both ends of the blade protrude approximately 1mm beyond the end of the set plate. Place the twomagnetic holders on the set plate and push them until theclaw contacts the blade.Fig.13Grip the magnetic holder and slip the heel of the set plateinto the groove in the drum. Install the blade installationbolts.Fig.14After tightening all the blade installation bolts lightly andevenly from the center to the outside, tighten themcompletely following the same sequence. Remove themagnetic holders from the set plate.Fig.15Install the other blade as described above. Rotate thedrum slowly while pressing the lock plate to make surethere is nothing abnormal. Then install the chip cover andthe side cover.CAUTION: Do not tighten the blade installation bolts withoutthe blade locating lug of the set plate correctlyresting in the groove of the blade. This may causedamage to the blade and potential injury to theoperator. Do not turn the tool on with the chip cover removed. When installing the chip cover, make sure that thechain is not caught by the chip cover.For standard blades onlyPlace the blade on the blade gauge so that the bladeedge is perfectly flush with the inside of the front rib (A).Place the set plate on the blade, then gently press theheel of the set plate flush with the back side of the bladegauge (B). Tighten the screws to secure the set plate tothe blade.Fig.16Slip the heel of the set plate into the groove in the drum.Install the blade installation bolts.Fig.17After tightening all the blade installation bolts tightly andevenly from the center to the outside, tighten themcompletely following the same sequence. |
