6– when the blade is pinched or bound tightly by the kerfclosing down, the blade stalls and the motor reactiondrives the unit rapidly back toward the operator;– if the blade becomes twisted or misaligned in the cut,the teeth at the back edge of the blade can dig into thetop surface of the workpiece causing the blade toclimb out of the kerf and jump back toward theoperator.Kickback is the result of saw misuse and/or incorrectoperating procedures or conditions and can be avoided bytaking proper precautions as given below.9. Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the sawand position your arms to resist kickback forces.Position your body to either side of the blade, butnot in line with the blade. Kickback could cause thesaw to jump backwards, but kickback forces can becontrolled by the operator, if proper precautions aretaken.10. When blade is binding, or when interrupting a cutfor any reason, release the trigger and hold thesaw motionless in the material until the bladecomes to a complete stop. Never attempt toremove the saw from the work or pull the sawbackward while the blade is in motion or kickbackmay occur. Investigate and take corrective actions toeliminate the cause of blade binding.11. When restarting a saw in the workpiece, centre thesaw blade in the kerf and check that saw teeth arenot engaged into the material. If saw blade isbinding, it may walk up or kickback from the workpieceas the saw is restarted.12. Support large panels to minimise the risk of bladepinching and kickback. Large panels tend to sagunder their own weight. Supports must be placedunder the panel on both sides, near the line of cut andnear the edge of the panel.13. Do not use dull or damaged blades. Unsharpenedor improperly set blades produce narrow kerf causingexcessive friction, blade binding and kickback.14. Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking leversmust be tight and secure before making cut. Ifblade adjustment shifts while cutting, it may causebinding and kickback.15. Use extra caution when sawing into existing wallsor other blind areas. The protruding blade may cutobjects that can cause kickback.Lower guard function16. Check lower guard for proper closing before eachuse. Do not operate the saw if lower guard doesnot move freely and close instantly. Never clampor tie the lower guard into the open position. If sawis accidentally dropped, lower guard may be bent.Raise the lower guard with the retracting handle andmake sure it moves freely and does not touch theblade or any other part, in all angles and depths of cut.17. Check the operation of the lower guard spring. Ifthe guard and the spring are not operatingproperly, they must be serviced before use. Lowerguard may operate sluggishly due to damaged parts, gummy deposits, or a build-up of debris.18. Lower guard may be retracted manually only forspecial cuts such as “plunge cuts” and“compound cuts”. Raise lower guard by retractinghandle and as soon as blade enters the material, the lower guard must be released. For all othersawing, the lower guard should operate automatically.19. Always observe that the lower guard is coveringthe blade before placing saw down on bench orfloor. An unprotected, coasting blade will cause thesaw to walk backwards, cutting whatever is in its path.Be aware of the time it takes for the blade to stop afterswitch is released.20. To check lower guard, open lower guard by hand, then release and watch guard closure. Also checkto see that retracting handle does not touch toolhousing. Leaving blade exposed is VERYDANGEROUS and can lead to serious personal injury.Additional safety warnings21. Do not stop the blades by lateral pressure on theblade.22. DANGER:Do not attempt to remove cut material when bladeis moving.CAUTION: Blades coast after turn off.23. Place the wider portion of the tool base on thatpart of the workpiece which is solidly supported, not on the section that will fall off when the cut ismade.24. Never attempt to make a cut with the tool heldupside down in a vise. This is extremelydangerous and can lead to serious accidents.25. Wear safety goggles and hearing protectionduring operation.26. Do not use any abrasive wheels.27. Only use the saw blade with the diameter that ismarked on the tool or specified in the manual. Useof an incorrectly sized blade may affect the properguarding of the blade or guard operation which couldresult in serious personal injury.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.WARNING:DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product (gainedfrom repeated use) replace strict adherence to safetyrules for the subject product. MISUSE or failure tofollow the safety rules stated in this instructionmanual may cause serious personal injury.FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before adjusting or checking function on thetool.Adjusting the depth of cut (Fig. 1)Loosen the lever on the depth guide and move the baseup or down. At the desired depth of cut, secure the baseby tightening the lever.CAUTION:• After adjusting the depth of cut, always tighten the leversecurely.Sighting (Fig. 2)When cutting, align the A position on the front of the basewith your cutting line on the workpiece. |
