9a way that the pressure reservoir will discharge at the timethe air supply coupling is disconnected.OPERATIONCAUTION:• Make sure all safety systems are in working orderbefore operation.1. To drive a nail, you may place the contact elementagainst the workpiece and pull the trigger, or(Fig. 15 & 16)2. Pull the trigger first and then place the contact elementagainst the workpiece.• No. 1 method is for intermittent nailing, when you wishto drive a nail carefully and very accurately.No. 2 method is for continuous nailing.CAUTION:• However when the tool is set to the “IntermittentNailing” mode, WITH THE TRIGGER HELD IN AHALF-PULLED POSITION, an unexpected nailingcould occur, if contact element is allowed to re-contactagainst the workpiece or the other surface under theinfluence of recoil.In order to avoid this unexpected nailing, perform asfollows;A. Do not place the contact element against the workpiecewith excessive force.B. Pull the trigger fully and hold it on for 1-2 seconds afternailing.• For No. 1 method, set the change lever to theposition.For No. 2 method, set the change lever to theposition. After using the change lever to change thenailing method, always make sure that the changelever is properly set to the position for the desirednailing method. (Fig. 17)Anti dry fire mechanismThis tool is equipped with an anti dry fire mechanism.When there are a few nails remaining in the magazine,the contact arm will be locked in the undepressed positionto prevent the tool from being activated. Load more nailsto resume operation.Jammed nailer (Fig. 18)CAUTION:• Always lock the trigger, disconnect the hose andremove the nails from the magazine before clearing ajam.When the nailer becomes jammed, do as follows:Insert a small rod or the like into the ejection port and tapit with a hammer to retract the driver.Use pliers to bend the jammed nail so that the nail headcomes out of the slot in the driver guide. Then remove thejammed nail. (Fig. 19)Nails (Fig. 20)Handle nail coils and their box carefully. If the nail coilshave been handled roughly, they may be out of shape ortheir connector breaks, causing poor nail feed.Avoid storing nails in a very humid or hot place or placeexposed to direct sunlight. (Fig. 21)MAINTENANCECAUTION:• Always disconnect the air hose from the tool beforeattempting to perform inspection or maintenance.• Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or thelike. Discoloration, deformation or cracks may result.Maintenance of the nailerAlways check the tool for its overall condition and loosescrews before operation. Tighten as required. (Fig. 22)With tool disconnected, make daily inspection to assurefree movement of the contact element and trigger. Do notuse tool if the contact element or trigger sticks or binds.(Fig. 23)Make sure that the trigger is locked when the changelever is set to the position. (Fig. 24)When the tool is not to be used for an extended period oftime, lubricate the tool using pneumatic tool oil and storethe tool in a safe place. Avoid exposure to a direct sunlightand/or humid or hot environment. (Fig. 25 & 26)Maintenance of the compressor, air setand air hose (Fig. 27 & 28)After operation, always drain the compressor tank and theair filter. If moisture is allowed to enter the tool, It mayresult in poor performance and possible tool failure.Check regularly to see if there is sufficient pneumatic oil inthe oiler of the air set. Failure to maintain sufficientlubrication will cause O-rings to wear quickly. (Fig. 29)Keep the air hose away from heat (over 60°C, over140°F), away from chemicals (thinner, strong acids oralkalis). Also, route the hose away from obstacles which itmay become dangerously caught on during operation.Hoses must also be directed away from sharp edges andareas which may lead to damage or abrasion to the hose.(Fig. 30)To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs,any other maintenance and adjustment should beperformed by Makita Authorized Service Centers, alwaysusing Makita replacement parts.OPTIONAL ACCESSORIESCAUTION:• These accessories or attachments are recommendedfor use with your Makita tool specified in this manual.The use of any other accessories or attachments mightpresent a risk of injury to persons.
