11For European countriesFig.7When lowering the handle, the blade guard A risesautomatically. The blade guard B rises as it contacts aworkpiece. The guards are spring loaded so it returns toits original position when the cut is completed and thehandle is raised.WARNING:• Never defeat or remove the blade guard or thespring which attaches to the guard. An exposedblade as a result of defeated guarding may resultin serious personal injury during operation.In the interest of your personal safety, always maintaineach blade guard in good condition. Any irregularoperation of the blade guards should be correctedimmediately. Check to assure spring loaded returnaction of guards.WARNING:• Never use the tool if the blade guard or springare damaged, faulty or removed. Operation ofthe tool with a damaged, faulty or removed guardmay result in serious personal injury.If the see-through blade guard becomes dirty, orsawdust adheres to it in such a way that the bladeand/or workpiece is no longer easily visible, remove thebattery cartridge and clean the guard carefully with adamp cloth. Do not use solvents or any petroleum-basedcleaners on the plastic guard because this may causedamage to the guard.If the blade guard becomes dirty and needs to becleaned for proper operation follow the steps below:With the tool switched off and the battery cartridgeremoved, use the supplied hex wrench to loosen the hexsocket bolt holding the center cover. Loosen the hexsocket bolt by turning it counterclockwise and raise theblade guard and center cover.Fig.8With the blade guard so positioned, cleaning can bemore completely and efficiently accomplished. Whencleaning is complete reverse procedure above andsecure bolt. Do not remove spring holding blade guard.If guard becomes damaged through age or UV lightexposure, contact a Makita service center for a newguard. DO NOT DEFEAT OR REMOVE GUARD.Positioning kerf boardFig.9Fig.10This tool is provided with the kerf boards in the turn baseto minimize tearing on the exit side of a cut. The kerfboards are factory adjusted so that the saw blade doesnot contact the kerf boards. Before use, adjust the kerfboards as follows:First, remove the battery cartridge. Loosen all thescrews (2 each on left and right) securing the kerfboards. Re-tighten them only to the extent that the kerfboards can still be easily moved by hand. Lower thehandle fully and push in the stopper pin to lock thehandle in the lowered position. Loosen two clampscrews which secure the slide poles. Pull the carriagetoward you fully. Adjust the kerf boards so that the kerfboards just contact the sides of the blade teeth. Tightenthe front screws (do not tighten firmly). Push the carriagetoward the guide fence fully and adjust the kerf boardsso that the kerf boards just contact the sides of bladeteeth. Tighten the rear screws (do not tighten firmly).After adjusting the kerf boards, release the stopper pinand raise the handle. Then tighten all the screwssecurely.NOTICE:• After setting the bevel angle ensure that the kerfboards are adjusted properly. Correct adjustmentof the kerf boards will help provide proper support ofthe workpiece minimizing workpiece tear out.Maintaining maximum cutting capacityFig.11Fig.12This tool is factory adjusted to provide the maximumcutting capacity for a 190 mm saw blade.Remove the battery cartridge before any adjustment isattempted. When installing a new blade, always checkthe lower limit position of the blade and if necessary,adjust it as follows:First, remove the battery cartridge. Push the carriagetoward the guide fence fully and lower the handlecompletely. Use the hex wrench to turn the adjusting boltuntil the periphery of the blade extends slightly below thetop surface of the turn base at the point where the frontface of the guide fence meets the top surface of the turnbase.With the battery cartridge removed, rotate the blade byhand while holding the handle all the way down to besure that the blade does not contact any part of the lowerbase. Re-adjust slightly, if necessary.WARNING:• After installing a new blade and with the batterycartridge removed, always be sure that theblade does not contact any part of the lowerbase when the handle is lowered completely. If ablade makes contact with the base it may causekickback and result in serious personal injury.Stopper armFig.13The lower limit position of the blade can be easilyadjusted with the stopper arm. To adjust it, move thestopper arm in the direction of the arrow as shown in thefigure. Adjust the adjusting screw so that the blade stopsat the desired position when lowering the handle fully. |
