9 ENGLISHSAFETY WARNINGSGeneral power tool safety warningsWARNING: Read all safety warnings, instruc-tions, illustrations and specifications providedwith this power tool. Failure to follow all instructionslisted below may result in electric shock, fire and/orserious injury.Save all warnings and instruc-tions for future reference.The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to yourmains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated(cordless) power tool.Work area safety1. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered ordark areas invite accidents.2. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmo-spheres, such as in the presence of flammableliquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparkswhich may ignite the dust or fumes.3. Keep children and bystanders away whileoperating a power tool. Distractions can causeyou to lose control.Electrical safety1. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Nevermodify the plug in any way. Do not use anyadapter plugs with earthed (grounded) powertools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets willreduce risk of electric shock.2. Avoid body contact with earthed or groundedsurfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges andrefrigerators. There is an increased risk of elec-tric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.3. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet con-ditions. Water entering a power tool will increasethe risk of electric shock.4. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord forcarrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool.Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edgesor moving parts. Damaged or entangled cordsincrease the risk of electric shock.5. When operating a power tool outdoors, use anextension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use ofa cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk ofelectric shock.6. If operating a power tool in a damp locationis unavoidable, use a residual current device(RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reducesthe risk of electric shock.7. Power tools can produce electromagneticfields (EMF) that are not harmful to the user.However, users of pacemakers and other similarmedical devices should contact the maker of theirdevice and/or doctor for advice before operatingthis power tool.Personal safety1. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and usecommon sense when operating a power tool.Do not use a power tool while you are tired orunder the influence of drugs, alcohol or med-ication. A moment of inattention while operatingpower tools may result in serious personal injury.2. Use personal protective equipment. Alwayswear eye protection. Protective equipment suchas a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat orhearing protection used for appropriate conditionswill reduce personal injuries.3. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure theswitch is in the off-position before connectingto power source and/or battery pack, pickingup or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools withyour finger on the switch or energising power toolsthat have the switch on invites accidents.4. Remove any adjusting key or wrench beforeturning the power tool on. A wrench or a key leftattached to a rotating part of the power tool mayresult in personal injury.5. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing andbalance at all times. This enables better controlof the power tool in unexpected situations.6. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing orjewellery. Keep your hair and clothing awayfrom moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery orlong hair can be caught in moving parts.7. If devices are provided for the connection ofdust extraction and collection facilities, ensurethese are connected and properly used. Use ofdust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.8. Do not let familiarity gained from frequent useof tools allow you to become complacent andignore tool safety principles. A careless actioncan cause severe injury within a fraction of asecond.9. Always wear protective goggles to protectyour eyes from injury when using power tools.The goggles must comply with ANSI Z87.1 inthe USA, EN 166 in Europe, or AS/NZS 1336in Australia/New Zealand. In Australia/NewZealand, it is legally required to wear a faceshield to protect your face, too.It is an employer's responsibility to enforcethe use of appropriate safety protective equip-ments by the tool operators and by other per-sons in the immediate working area.
