6 ENGLISHFUNCTIONALDESCRIPTIONCAUTION: Always be sure that the tool isswitched off and the battery cartridge is removedbefore adjusting or checking function on the tool.Installing or removing batterycartridgeCAUTION: Always switch off the tool beforeinstalling or removing of the battery cartridge.CAUTION: Hold the tool and the battery car-tridge firmly when installing or removing batterycartridge. Failure to hold the tool and the batterycartridge firmly may cause them to slip off your handsand result in damage to the tool and battery cartridgeand a personal injury.► Fig.1: 1. Red indicator 2. Battery cartridgeTo remove the battery cartridge, slide it from the toolwhile sliding the button on the front of the cartridge.To install the battery cartridge, align the tongue on thebattery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slipit into place. Insert it all the way until it locks in placewith a little click. If you can see the red indicator on theupper side of the button, it is not locked completely.CAUTION: Always install the battery cartridgefully until the red indicator cannot be seen. If not,it may accidentally fall out of the tool, causing injury toyou or someone around you.CAUTION: Do not install the battery cartridgeforcibly. If the cartridge does not slide in easily, it isnot being inserted correctly.Battery protection systemThe tool is equipped with a battery protection system.This system automatically cuts off power to the motor toextend battery life.The tool will automatically stop during operation if thetool and/or battery are placed under one of the followingconditions:Overloaded:The tool is operated in a manner that causes it to drawan abnormally high current.In this situation, turn the tool off and stop the applicationthat caused the tool to become overloaded. Then turnthe tool on to restart.If the tool does not start, the battery is overheated. Inthis situation, let the battery cool before turning the toolon again.Low battery voltage:The remaining battery capacity is too low and the toolwill not operate. If you turn the tool on, the motor runsagain but stops soon. In this situation, remove andrecharge the battery.Indicating the remaining batterycapacityOnly for battery cartridges with the indicator► Fig.2: 1. Indicator lamps 2. Check buttonPress the check button on the battery cartridge to indi-cate the remaining battery capacity. The indicator lampslight up for a few seconds.Indicator lamps RemainingcapacityLighted Off75% to 100%50% to 75%25% to 50%0% to 25%NOTE: Depending on the conditions of use and theambient temperature, the indication may differ slightlyfrom the actual capacity.Switch actionWARNING: Before installing the battery car-tridge into the tool, always check to see that theswitch trigger actuates properly and returns tothe "OFF" position when released.WARNING: For your safety, this tool isequipped with the lock-off button which preventsthe tool from unintended starting. Never use thetool if it starts when you pull the switch triggerwithout pressing the lock-off button. Ask your localMakita Service Center for repairs.WARNING: Never disable the lock function ortape down the lock-off button.NOTICE: Do not pull the switch trigger forciblywithout pressing the lock-off button. Lock-off buttonTo prevent the switch trigger from being accidentallypulled, a lock-off button is provided.To start the tool, press the lock-off button and pull theswitch trigger. Release the switch trigger to stop. Thelock-off button can be pressed from either the right orleft side.
