5Switch actionCAUTION:• Before inserting the battery cartridge into the tool,always check to see that the switch trigger actuatesproperly and returns to the “OFF” position whenreleased.To start the tool, simply pull the switch trigger. Toolspeed is increased by increasing pressure on the switchtrigger. Release the switch trigger to stop.Electric brakeThis tool is equipped with an electric brake. If the toolconsistently fails to quickly stop after switch triggerrelease, have tool serviced at a Makita service center.Reversing switch actionThis tool has a reversing switch to change the directionof rotation. Depress the reversing switch lever from the Aside for clockwise rotation or from the B side for counter-clockwise rotation.When the reversing switch lever is in the neutral position,the switch trigger cannot be pulled.CAUTION:• Always check the direction of rotation before opera-tion.• Use the reversing switch only after the tool comesto a complete stop. Changing the direction of rota-tion before the tool stops may damage the tool.• When not operating the tool, always set the revers-ing switch lever to the neutral position.Overload protectorThe overload protector automatically cuts out to breakthe circuit and the button pops out, whenever heavy workis prolonged. Wait 20 - 30 seconds before pressing thereset button to resume operation. The tool should beswitched off when you press the reset button, however.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off and thebattery cartridge is removed before carrying out anywork on the tool.Installing or removing driver bit or drill bitFor model DA391DHold the ring and turn the sleeve counterclockwise toopen the chuck jaws. Place the bit in the chuck as far asit will go. Hold the ring firmly and turn the sleeve clock-wise to tighten the chuck.To remove the bit, hold the ring and turn the sleeve coun-terclockwise.For model DA301DTo install the bit, place it in the chuck as far as it will go.Tighten the chuck by hand.
