It will alsovoid the Makita warranty for the Makita tool and charger.Tips for maintaining maximumbattery life1. Charge the battery cartridge before completelydischarged. Always stop tool operation andcharge the battery cartridge when you noticeless tool power.2. Never recharge a fully charged battery car-tridge. Overcharging shortens the batteryservice life.3. Charge the battery cartridge with room tempera-ture at 10 °C - 40 °C (50 °F - 104 °F). Let a hotbattery cartridge cool down before charging it.4. Charge the battery cartridge if you do not useit for a long period (more than six months).FUNCTIONALDESCRIPTIONCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andthe battery cartridge is removed before adjust-ing or checking function on the tool.Installing or removing batterycartridge► Fig.7: 1. Battery cartridgeCAUTION:• Always switch off the tool before installing orremoving of the battery cartridge.• Hold the tool and the battery cartridge firmlywhen installing or removing battery car-tridge. Failure to hold the tool and the batterycartridge firmly may cause them to slip off yourhands and result in damage to the tool andbattery cartridge and a personal injury.To remove the battery cartridge, slide it from the toolwhile sliding the button on the front of the cartridge.To install the battery cartridge, align the tongue on thebattery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slipit into place. Insert it all the way until it locks in placewith a little click. If you can see the red indicator on theupper side of the button, it is not locked completely.CAUTION:• Always install the battery cartridge fully until thered indicator cannot be seen. If not, it may acci-dentally fall out of the tool, causing injury to youor someone around you.• Do not install the battery cartridge forcibly. If thecartridge does not slide in easily, it is not beinginserted correctly.NOTE:• When the battery cartridge is not removed eas-ily, push it from the opposite side of the buttonand slide it.Indicating the remaining batterycapacityOnly for battery cartridges with the indicator► Fig.8: 1. The indicator lampslight up for a few seconds.Indicator lamps RemainingcapacityLighted Off Blinking75% to 100%50% to 75%25% to 50%0% to 25%Charge thebattery.The batterymay havemalfunctioned.NOTE: Depending on the conditions of use and theambient temperature, the indication may differ slightlyfrom the actual capacity.Switch actionCAUTION:• Before installing the battery cartridge into thetool, always check to see that the switch triggeractuates properly and returns to the "OFF"position when released.• Do not pull the switch trigger hard without press-ing the lock-off lever. This can cause switchbreakage.► Fig.9: 1. Switch trigger 2. Lock-off leverTo prevent the switch trigger from being accidentallypulled, a lock-off lever is provided. To start the tool,press the lock-off lever and pull the switch trigger.Release the switch trigger to stop.
