16 ENGLISHThis tool has "high speed mode" and "high torquemode". It automatically changes operation modedepending on the work load. When mode indicatorlights up during operation, the tool is in high torquemode.Stopper pinCAUTION: Always hold the handle whenreleasing the stopper pin. Otherwise the handlesprings up and it may result in personal injury.To release the stopper pin, keep applying a slightdownward pressure on the handle and then pulling thestopper pin.► Fig.9: 1. Stopper pinBlade guardWARNING: Never defeat or remove the bladeguard or the spring which attaches to the guard.An exposed blade as a result of defeated guardingmay result in serious personal injury during operation.WARNING: Never use the tool if the bladeguard or spring are damaged, faulty or removed.Operation of the tool with a damaged, faulty orremoved guard may result in serious personal injury.CAUTION: Always maintain the blade guard ingood condition for safe operation. Stop the operationimmediately if there are any irregularity of the bladeguard. Check to assure spring loaded return actionof guard.For tools with blade guard release lever► Fig.10: 1. Blade guardIf the transparent blade guard becomes dirty, or saw-dust adheres to it in such a way that the blade and/orworkpiece is no longer easily visible, remove the batterycartridge and clean the guard carefully with a dampcloth. Do not use solvents or any petroleum-basedcleaners on the plastic guard because this may causedamage to the guard.For cleaning, raise the blade guard by referring to"Installing or removing saw blade".After cleaning, make sure to return the blade and centercover and tighten the hex socket bolt.1. Make sure that the tool is switched off and thebattery cartridges are removed.2. Turn the hex socket bolt counterclockwise usingthe supplied hex wrench with holding the center cover.3. Raise the blade guard and center cover.4. When cleaning is complete, return the centercover and tighten the hex socket bolt by performing thesteps above in reverse.WARNING: Do not remove spring holdingblade guard. If guard becomes damaged in courseof time or UV light exposure, contact a Makita ser-vice center for replacement. DO NOT DEFEAT ORREMOVE GUARD.Positioning kerf boardThis tool is provided with the kerf boards in the turnbase to minimize tearing on the exit side of a cut. Thekerf boards are factory adjusted so that the saw bladedoes not contact the kerf boards. Before use, adjust thekerf boards as follows:1. Make sure to remove the battery cartridge. Then,loosen all the screws (2 each on left and right) securingthe kerf boards.► Fig.13: 1. Kerf board 2. Screw2. Re-tighten them only to the extent that the kerfboards can still be easily moved by hand.3. Lower the handle fully and push in the stopper pinto lock the handle in the lowered position.4. Loosen two clamp screws which secure the slidepoles.► Fig.14: 1. Thumb screw5. Pull the carriage toward you fully.6. Adjust the kerf boards so that the kerf boards justcontact the sides of the blade teeth.► Fig.15► Fig.16: 1. Saw blade 2. Blade teeth 3. Kerf board4. Left bevel cut 5. Straight cut7. Tighten the front screws (do not tighten firmly).8. Push the carriage toward the guide fence fully andadjust the kerf boards so that the kerf boards just con-tact the sides of blade teeth.9. Tighten the rear screws (do not tighten firmly).10. After adjusting the kerf boards, release the stopper pinand raise the handle. Then tighten all the screws securely.NOTICE: After setting the bevel angle ensurethat the kerf boards are adjusted properly. Correctadjustment of the kerf boards helps to provide propersupport of the workpiece and minimizing workpiecetear out.Maintaining maximum cuttingcapacityThis tool is factory adjusted to provide the maximumcutting capacity for a 190 mm saw blade.When installing a new blade, always check the lower limitposition of the blade, and if necessary, adjust it as follows:1. Remove the battery cartridge. Then, push the car-riage toward the guide fence fully and lower the handlecompletely. |
