8 ENGLISHTool / battery protection systemThe tool is equipped with a tool/battery protection sys-tem. This system automatically cuts off power to themotor to extend tool and battery life. The tool will auto-matically stop during operation if the tool or battery isplaced under one of the following conditions:Overload protectionWhen the battery is operated in a manner that causesit to draw an abnormally high current, the tool automat-ically stops without any indication. In this situation, turnthe tool off and stop the application that caused the toolto become overloaded. Then turn the tool on to restart.Overheat protectionWhen the tool is overheated, the tool stops automaticallyand the lamp starts blinking. In this situation, let the tooland battery cool before turning the tool on again.Overdischarge protectionWhen the battery capacity is not enough, the tool stopsautomatically. In this case, remove the battery from thetool and charge the battery.HookCAUTION: Never hang the tool at high orpotentially unstable location.The hook is convenient for hanging the tool temporarily.To use the hook, simply lift up hook until it snaps intothe open position.When not in use, always lower hook until it snaps intothe closed position.Open position► Fig.4: 1. HookSwitch actionWARNING: Before installing the battery car-tridge into the tool, always check to see that theswitch trigger actuates properly and returns tothe "OFF" position when released.WARNING: NEVER defeat the lock-off buttonby taping down or some other means. A switch witha negated lock-off button may result in unintentionaloperation and serious personal injury.WARNING: NEVER use the tool if it runs when yousimply pull the switch trigger without pressing the lock-offbutton. A switch in need of repair may result in unintentionaloperation and serious personal injury. Return tool to a Makitaservice center for proper repairs BEFORE further usage.To prevent the switch trigger from being accidentallypulled, a lock-off button is provided. To start the tool,depress the lock-off button and pull the switch trigger.Tool speed is increased by increasing pressure on theswitch trigger. Release the switch trigger to stop.► Fig.6: 1. Lock-off button 2. Switch triggerSpeed adjusting dial► Fig.7: 1. Speed adjusting dialThe tool speed can be infinitely adjusted between 1.3m/s and 3.2 m/s by turning the adjusting dial. Higherspeed is obtained when the dial is turned in the direc-tion of number 6; lower speed is obtained when it isturned in the direction of number 1.Select the proper speed for the workpiece to be cut.NOTICE: When changing the speed dial from "6"to "1", turn the dial counterclockwise. Do not turnthe dial clockwise forcibly.NOTICE: Plastic materials may melt when cut-ting at high speeds.Lighting up the front lampCAUTION: Do not look in the light or see thesource of light directly.Pull the switch trigger to light up the lamp. The lamp keeps onlighting while the switch trigger is being pulled. The lamp goesout approximately 10 seconds after releasing the switch trigger.► Fig.8: 1. LampNOTE: Do not apply impact to the lamp, which maycause damage or shorted service time to it.NOTE: Use a dry cloth to wipe the dirt off the lens ofthe lamp. Be careful not to scratch the lens of lamp, orit may lower the illumination.NOTE: When the tool is overheated, the lamp blinksfor one minute, and then goes off. In this case, cooldown the tool before operating again.ASSEMBLYCAUTION: Always be sure that the tool isswitched off and the battery cartridge is removedbefore carrying out any work on the tool.Installing or removing the band saw bladeCAUTION: Oil on the band saw blade cancause the blade to slip or come off unexpectedly.Wipe off all excess oil with a cloth before install-ing the band saw blade.CAUTION: Always wear protective gloveswhen handling the band saw blade.CAUTION: Use caution when handling theband saw blade to avoid cut by the sharp edge ofthe blade teeth.CAUTION: Keep your body away fromthe band saw blade when checking the blademovement.CAUTION: When turning the blade tighteninglever clockwise to release the tension on the bandsaw blade, point the tool downward because theband saw blade may come off unexpectedly. |
