4FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before adjusting or checking function onthe tool.Switch action120046711004672CAUTION:• Before plugging in the tool, always check to seethat the switch lever (paddle switch) actuatesproperly and returns to the ''OFF'' position whenreleased.• The switch lever does not actuate when the lock-offlever is in the LOCK position. Do not try to actuatethe switch lever when the lock-off lever is in theLOCK position.• When not operating the tool, keep the lock-off leverin the LOCK position. To prevent the switch from being accidentally actuated, alock-off lever is provided. To start the tool, turn thelock-off lever to the FREE position and then squeeze theswitch lever. Release the switch lever to stop.Permissible shearing thickness12004674The groove on the yoke serves as a thickness gauge forshearing mild or stainless steel plate. If the material fitswithin the groove, it is shearable. The thickness of materials to be sheared depends uponthe type (strength) of the material. The maximumshearing thickness is indicated in the table below interms of various materials. Attempting to shear materialsthicker than indicated will result in tool breakdown and/orpossible injury. Keep within the thickness shown in thetable.Material Max. cutting thickness(mm)Tensile Strength(N/mm2 )Mild steel (A) 400 1.6 (16 ga)Hard steel (B) 600 1.2 (18 ga)Stainless steel 800 0.8 (22 ga)Aluminum plate 200 2.5 (13 ga)006425ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.Blade inspectionBefore using the tool, check the blades for wear. Dull, worn blades will result in poor shearing action, and theservice life of the tool will be shortened.Rotating or replacing bladesBoth the upper and lower blades have four cutting edgeson each side (the front and back). When the cutting edgebecomes dull, rotate both the upper and the lower blades90° to expose new cutting edges. When all eight edges are dull on both the upper andlower blades, replace both blades with new ones. Eachtime blades are rotated or replaced, proceed as follows.1234 5004678Remove the blade securing bolts with the hex wrenchprovided and then rotate or replace the blades. Some tools have one or more thin washers between theupper blade and the blade holder. Be sure to use thesame number of thin washers when reassembling.1. Lower blade2. Loosen3. Upper blade4. Upper bladesecuring bolt5. Hex wrench1. Gauge forstainless: 1.2mm (3/64")2.
