7Switch actionCAUTION:• Before plugging in the tool, always check to seethat the switch trigger actuates properly andreturns to the "OFF" position when released.Fig.2For tool with lock buttonTo start the tool, simply pull the switch trigger. Releasethe switch trigger to stop.For continuous operation, pull the switch trigger andthen push in the lock button from either side.To stop the tool from the locked position, pull the switchtrigger fully, then release it.For tool with lock-off buttonTo prevent the switch trigger from being accidentallypulled, a lock-off button is provided.To start the tool, depress the lock-off button from eitherside and pull the switch trigger. Release the switchtrigger to stop.Electronic functionFor Model KP0810C onlyThe tool equipped with electronic function are easy tooperate because of the following features.Constant speed controlElectronic speed control for obtaining constant speed.Possible to get fine finish, because the rotating speed iskept constant even under load condition.Soft startSoft-start feature minimizes start-up shock, and makesthe tool start smoothly.FootFig.3After a cutting operation, raise the back side of the tooland a foot comes under the level of the rear base. Thisprevents the tool blades to be damaged.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on thetool.Removing or installing planer bladesCAUTION:• Tighten the blade installation bolts carefully whenattaching the blades to the tool. A loose installationbolt can be dangerous. Always check to see theyare tightened securely.• Handle the blades very carefully. Use gloves orrags to protect your fingers or hands whenremoving or installing the blades.• Use only the Makita wrench provided to remove orinstall the blades. Failure to do so may result inovertightening or insufficient tightening of theinstallation bolts. This could cause an injury.For tool with standard planer bladesFig.4Fig.5Fig.6To remove the blades on the drum, unscrew theinstallation bolts with the socket wrench. The drum covercomes off together with the blades.To install the blades, first clean out all chips or foreignmatter adhering to the drum or blades. Use blades of thesame dimensions and weight, or drumoscillation/vibration will result, causing poor planingaction and, eventually, tool breakdown.Place the blade on the gauge base so that the bladeedge is perfectly flush with the inside edge of the gaugeplate. Place the adjusting plate on the blade, then simplypress in the heel of the adjusting plate flush with theback side of the gauge base and tighten two screws onthe adjusting plate. Now slip the heel of the adjustingplate into the drum groove, then fit the drum cover on it.Tighten all the installation bolts evenly and alternatelywith the socket wrench.For tool with mini planer blades1. Remove the existing blade, if the tool has been inuse, carefully clean the drum surfaces and thedrum cover. To remove the blades on the drum,unscrew the three installation bolts with the socketwrench. The drum cover comes off together withthe blades.Fig.72. To install the blades, loosely attach the adjustingplate to the set plate with the pan head screwsand set the mini planer blade on the gauge baseso that the cutting edge of the blade is perfectlyflush with the inside flank of the gauge plate.Fig.83. Set the adjusting plate/set plate on the gaugebase so that the planer blade locating lugs on theset plate rest in the mini planer blade groove, thenpress in the heel of the adjusting plate flush withthe back side of the gauge base and tighten thepan head screws.4. It is important that the blade sits flush with theinside flank of the gauge plate, the planer bladelocating lugs sit in the blade groove and the heelof the adjusting plate is flush with the back side ofthe gauge base. Check this alignment carefully toensure uniform cutting.5. Slip the heel of the adjusting plate into the grooveof the drum.6. Set the drum cover over the adjusting plate/setplate and screw in the three hex flange head boltsso that a gap exists between the drum and the setplate to slide the mini planer blade into position.The blade will be positioned by the planer blade |
