15INSTALLATIONBench mountingWhen the tool is shipped, the handle is locked in the low-ered position by the stopper pin. Release the stopper pinby lowering the handle slightly and pulling the stopperpin. (Fig. 1)This tool should be bolted with two bolts to a level andstable surface using the bolt holes provided in the tool’sbase. This will help prevent tipping and possible injury.(Fig. 2)Turn the adjusting bolt clockwise or counterclockwise sothat it comes into a contact with the floor surface to keepthe tool stable. (Fig. 3)FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before adjusting or checking function on thetool.Blade guard (Fig. 4 & 5)For all countries other than European countriesWhen lowering the handle, the blade guard rises auto-matically. The guard is spring loaded so it returns to itsoriginal position when the cut is completed and the han-dle is raised. NEVER DEFEAT OR REMOVE THEBLADE GUARD OR THE SPRING WHICH ATTACHESTO THE GUARD.In the interest of your personal safety, always maintainthe blade guard in good condition. Any irregular opera-tion of the blade guard should be corrected immediately.Check to assure spring loaded return action of guard.NEVER USE THE TOOL IF THE BLADE GUARD ORSPRING ARE DAMAGED, FAULTY OR REMOVED.DOING SO IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSESERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY.For European countriesWhen lowering the handle, the blade guard A rises auto-matically. Do not use solvents or any petro-leum-based cleaners on the plastic guard.If the blade guard is especially dirty and vision throughthe guard is impaired, use the supplied socket wrench toloosen the hex bolt holding the center cover. Loosen thehex bolt by turning it counterclockwise and raise theblade guard and center cover. With the blade guard sopositioned, cleaning can be more completely and effi-ciently accomplished. When cleaning is complete,reverse procedure above and secure bolt. Do not removespring holding blade guard. If guard becomes discoloredthrough age or UV light exposure, contact a Makita ser-vice center for a new guard. DO NOT DEFEAT ORREMOVE GUARD.Positioning kerf board (Fig. 6 & 7)This tool is provided with the kerf boards in the turn baseto minimize tearing on the exit side of a cut. The kerfboards are factory adjusted so that the saw blade doesnot contact the kerf boards. Before use, adjust the kerfboards as follows:First, unplug the tool. Loosen all the screws (2 each onleft and right) securing the kerf boards. Re-tighten themonly to the extent that the kerf boards can still be easilymoved by hand. Lower the handle fully and push in thestopper pin to lock the handle in the lowered position.Loosen two clamp screws which secure the slide poles.Pull the carriage toward you fully. Adjust the kerf boardsso that the kerf boards just contact the sides of the bladeteeth. Tighten the front screws (do not tighten firmly).Push the carriage toward the guide fence fully and adjustthe kerf boards so that the kerf boards just contact thesides of blade teeth. Tighten the rear screws (do nottighten firmly).After adjusting the kerf boards, release the stopper pinand raise the handle. Then tighten all the screwssecurely.CAUTION:• Before and after changing the bevel angle, alwaysadjust the kerf boards as described above.Maintaining maximum cutting capacity(Fig. 8 & 9)This tool is factory adjusted to provide the maximum cut-ting capacity for a 190 mm saw blade.When installing a new blade, always check the lower limitposition of the blade and if necessary, adjust it as follows:First, unplug the tool. Push the carriage toward the guidefence fully and lower the handle completely. Use thesocket wrench to turn the adjusting bolt until the periph-ery of the blade extends slightly below the top surface ofthe turn base at the point where the front face of theguide fence meets the top surface of the turn base.With the tool unplugged, rotate the blade by hand whileholding the handle all the way down to be sure that theblade does not contact any part of the lower base. Re-adjust slightly, if necessary.CAUTION:• After installing a new blade, always be sure that theblade does not contact any part of the lower base whenthe handle is lowered completely. Always do this withthe tool unplugged.Stopper arm (Fig. 10)The lower limit position of the blade can be easilyadjusted with the stopper arm. To adjust it, move thestopper arm in the direction of the arrow as shown in thefigure. Adjust the adjusting screw so that the blade stopsat the desired position when lowering the handle fully. |
