Securing workpieceWARNING:It is extremely important to always secure the work-piece properly and tightly with the vise. Failure to doso can cause the tool to be damaged and/or theworkpiece to be destroyed. PERSONAL INJURY MAYALSO RESULT. Also, after a cutting operation, DONOT raise the blade until the blade has come to acomplete stop.1. Vertical vise (Fig. 23 & 27)The vertical vise can be installed on the guidefence or the holder assembly (optional acces-sory). Insert the vise rod into the hole in the guidefence or the holder assembly and tighten thescrew to secure the vise rod. Position the vise armaccording to the thickness and shape of theworkpiece and secure the vise arm by tighteningthe screw. Press the workpiece flat against theguide fence and the turn base. Position the work-piece at the desired cutting position and secure itfirmly by tightening the clamp screw.CAUTION:The workpiece must be secured firmly against theturn base and guide fence with the vise during alloperations. If some part contacts the vise, re-position the visearm. Press the workpiece flat against the guidefence and the turn base. Position the workpiece atthe desired cutting position and secure it firmly bytightening the clamp screw of the vise.CAUTION:When cutting long workpieces, use supports thatare as high as the top surface level of the turnbase. (Fig. 24)2. Horizontal vise (optional accessory)(Fig. 25 & 26)The horizontal vise can be installed on either theleft or right side of the base. When performing 15°or greater miter cuts, install the horizontal vise onthe side opposite the direction in which the turntable is to be turned. By turning the knob on thevise counterclockwise, the screw is released andthe vise shaft can be moved rapidly in and out. Byturning the knob clockwise, the screw remainssecured. To grip workpieces, turn the knob gentlyclockwise until the projection reaches its topmostposition, then fasten securely. If the knob is forcedin or pulled out while being turned clockwise, theprojection may stop at an angle. In this case, turnthe knob back counterclockwise until the screw isreleased, before turning again gently clockwise.3. Holders and holder assembly(optional accessories)The holders and the holder assembly can beinstalled on either side as a convenient means ofsupporting workpieces horizontally. Install themas shown in Fig. 27. Then tighten the screwsfirmly to secure the holders and the holder assem-bly. (Fig. 27)When cutting long workpieces, use the holder-rodassembly (optional accessory). It consists of twoholder assemblies and two rods 12. (Fig. 28)CAUTION:Always support long workpieces level with the topsurface of the turn base for accurate cuts and toprevent dangerous loss of control of the tool.OperationCAUTION:• Before use, be sure to release the handle from thelowered position by pulling the stopper pin.• Make sure the blade is not contacting the work-piece, etc. before the switch is turned on.• Do not apply excessive pressure on the handlewhen cutting. Too much force may result in overloadof the motor and/or decreased cutting efficiency.• Gently press down the handle to perform the cut. Ifthe handle is pressed down with force or if lateralforce is applied, the blade will vibrate and leave amark (saw mark) in the workpiece and the precisionof the cut will be impaired. When cutting with this tool, the thickness of the bladeis cut out of the workpiece as well. Therefore, yourcutting line should be on either the left or right side ofthe groove in the kerf board. Switch on the tool andwait until the blade attains full speed before loweringgently into the cut. When the blade contacts theworkpiece, gradually bear down on the handle toperform the cut. When the cut is completed, switch offthe tool and WAIT UNTIL THE BLADE HAS COMETO A COMPLETE STOP before returning the blade toits fully elevated position. A thin piece of cut offmaterial could otherwise contact the coasting bladeand be thrown around dangerously. (Fig. 29)11
