16INSTALLATIONBench mountingWhen the tool is shipped, the handle is locked in the low-ered position by the stopper pin. Release the stopper pinby lowering the handle slightly and pulling the stopperpin. (Fig. 1)This tool should be bolted with four bolts to a level andstable surface using the bolt holes provided in the tool’sbase. This will help prevent tipping and possible injury.(Fig. 2)FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before adjusting or checking function on thetool.Blade guard (Fig. 3 & 4)When lowering the handle, the blade guard rises auto-matically. The blade guard returns to its original positionwhen the cut is completed and the handle is raised.NEVER DEFEAT OR REMOVE THE BLADE GUARD.In the interest of your personal safety, always maintainthe blade guard in good condition. Any irregular opera-tion of the blade guard should be corrected immediately.Check to assure spring loaded return action of guard.NEVER USE THE TOOL IF THE BLADE GUARD ORSPRING ARE DAMAGED, FAULTY OR REMOVED.DOING SO IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSESERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY.If the see-through blade guard becomes dirty, or sawdustadheres to it in such a way that the blade and/or work-piece is no longer easily visible, unplug the saw andclean the guard carefully with a damp cloth. Do not usesolvents or any petroleum-based cleaners on the plasticguard.If the blade guard is especially dirty and vision throughthe guard is impaired, use the supplied socket wrench toloosen the hex bolt holding the center cover.Loosen the hex bolt by turning it counterclockwise andraise the blade guard and center cover. With the bladeguard so positioned, cleaning can be more completelyand efficiently accomplished. When cleaning is complete,reverse procedure above and secure bolt. Do not removespring holding blade guard. If guard becomes discoloredthrough age or UV light exposure, contact a Makita ser-vice center for a new guard. DO NOT DEFEAT ORREMOVE GUARD.Positioning kerf board (Fig. 5 & 6)This tool is provided with the kerf boards in the turn base.The kerf boards are factory adjusted so that the sawblade does not contact the kerf boards. Before use,adjust the kerf boards as follows:First, unplug the tool. Loosen all the screws (2 each onleft and right) securing the kerf boards. Re-tighten themonly to the extent that the kerf boards can still be easilymoved by hand. Lower the handle fully and push in thestopper pin to lock the handle in the lowered position.Loosen the knob which secures the slide poles. Pull thecarriage toward you fully. Adjust the kerf boards so thatthe kerf boards just contact the sides of the blade teeth.Tighten the front screws (do not tighten firmly). Push thecarriage toward the guide fence fully and adjust the kerfboards so that the kerf boards just contact the sides ofblade teeth. Tighten the rear screws (do not tightenfirmly).After adjusting the kerf boards, release the stopper pinand raise the handle. Then tighten all the screwssecurely.CAUTION:• Before and after changing the bevel angle, alwaysadjust the kerf boards as described above.Maintaining maximum cutting capacity (Fig. 7 &8)This tool is factory adjusted to provide the maximum cut-ting capacity for a 305 mm saw blade.When installing a new blade, always check the lower limitposition of the blade and if necessary, adjust it as follows:First, unplug the tool. Push the carriage toward the guidefence fully and lower the handle completely. Use thesocket wrench to turn the adjusting bolt until the periph-ery of the blade extends slightly below the top surface ofthe turn base at the point where the front face of theguide fence meets the top surface of the turn base.With the tool unplugged, rotate the blade by hand whileholding the handle all the way down to be sure that theblade does not contact any part of the lower base. Re-adjust slightly, if necessary.CAUTION:• After installing a new blade, always be sure that theblade does not contact any part of the lower base whenthe handle is lowered completely. Always do this withthe tool unplugged.Stopper arm (Fig. 9)The lower limit position of the blade can be easilyadjusted with the stopper arm. To adjust it, rotate thestopper arm in the direction of the arrow as shown in thefigure. Adjust the adjusting screw so that the blade stopsat the desired position when lowering the handle fully.Adjusting the miter angle (Fig. 10)Loosen the grip by turning counterclockwise. Turn theturn base while pressing down the lock lever. When youhave moved the grip to the position where the pointerpoints to the desired angle on the miter scale, securelytighten the grip clockwise.CAUTION:• When turning the turn base, be sure to raise the handlefully.• After changing the miter angle, always secure the turnbase by tightening the grip firmly. |
