19OPERATIONCAUTION:• Before use, be sure to release the handle from the low-ered position by pulling the stopper pin.• Make sure the blade is not contacting the workpiece, etc. before the switch is turned on.• Do not apply excessive pressure on the handle whencutting. Too much force may result in overload of themotor and/or decreased cutting efficiency. Push downhandle with only as much force as is necessary forsmooth cutting and without significant decrease inblade speed.• Gently press down the handle to perform the cut. If thehandle is pressed down with force or if lateral force isapplied, the blade will vibrate and leave a mark (sawmark) in the workpiece and the precision of the cut willbe impaired.• During a slide cut, gently push the carriage toward theguide fence without stopping. If the carriage movementis stopped during the cut, a mark will be left in the work-piece and the precision of the cut will be impaired.1. Press cutting (cutting small workpieces)(Fig. 34)Workpieces up to 115 mm high and 75 mm wide can becut in the following way.Push the carriage toward the guide fence fully andtighten the knob to secure the carriage. Secure the work-piece with the vise. Switch on the tool and wait until theblade attains full speed before lowering gently into thecut. When the cut is completed, switch off the tool andWAIT UNTIL THE BLADE HAS COME TO A COM-PLETE STOP before returning the blade to its fully ele-vated position.CAUTION:• Firmly tighten the knob so that the carriage will notmove during operation. Insufficient tightening maycause unexpected kickback of the blade. Possible seri-ous PERSONAL INJURY may result.2. Slide (push) cutting (cutting wide workpieces)(Fig. 35)Workpieces up to 115 mm high and 308 mm wide can becut in the following way.Loosen the knob counterclockwise so that the carriagecan slide freely. Secure the workpiece with the vise. Pullthe carriage toward you fully. Switch on the tool withoutthe blade making any contact and wait until the bladeattains full speed. Press down the handle and PUSHTHE CARRIAGE TOWARD THE GUIDE FENCE ANDTHROUGH THE WORKPIECE. When the cut is com-pleted, switch off the tool and WAIT UNTIL THE BLADEHAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP before returningthe blade to its fully elevated position.CAUTION:• Whenever performing the slide cut, FIRST PULL THECARRIAGE TOWARD YOU FULLY and press down thehandle to the fully lowered position, then PUSH THECARRIAGE TOWARD THE GUIDE FENCE. NEVERSTART THE CUT WITH THE CARRIAGE NOT FULLYPULLED TOWARD YOU. If you perform the slide cutwithout pulling the carriage fully or if you perform theslide cut toward your direction, the blade may kickbackunexpectedly with the potential to cause serious PER-SONAL INJURY.• Never perform the slide cut with the handle locked inthe lowered position by pressing the stopper pin.• Never loosen the knob which secures the carriagewhile the blade is rotating. This may cause seriousinjury.3. Mitre cuttingRefer to the previously covered “Adjusting the miterangle”.4. Bevel cut (Fig. 36)Left and right 0° – 45° bevel cuts can be performed. At aleft 45° bevel angle, workpieces up to 66 mm high and305 mm wide can be cut. At a right 45° bevel angle, workpieces up to 45 mm high and 305 mm wide can becut.Loosen the lever and tilt the saw blade to set the bevelangle (Refer to the previously covered “Adjusting thebevel angle”). Be sure to retighten the lever firmly tosecure the selected bevel angle safely. Secure the work-piece with a vise. Make sure the carriage is pulled all theway back toward the operator. Switch on the tool withoutthe blade making any contact and wait until the bladeattains full speed. Then gently lower the handle to thefully lowered position while applying pressure in parallelwith the blade and PUSH THE CARRIAGE TOWARDTHE GUIDE FENCE TO CUT THE WORKPIECE. Whenthe cut is completed, switch off the tool and WAIT UNTILTHE BLADE HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOPbefore returning the blade to its fully elevated position.CAUTION:• Always be sure that the blade will move down to beveldirection during a bevel cut. Keep hands out of path ofsaw blade.• During a bevel cut, it may create a condition wherebythe piece cut off will come to rest against the side of theblade. If the blade is raised while the blade is still rotat-ing, this piece may be caught by the blade, causingfragments to be scattered which is dangerous. Theblade should be raised ONLY after the blade has cometo a complete stop.• When pressing down the handle, apply pressure in par-allel with the blade. If a force is applied perpendicularlyto the turn base or if the pressure direction is changedduring a cut, the precision of the cut will be impaired.• Always set the sub-fence to the left position when per-forming left bevel cuts.5. Compound cuttingCompound cutting is the process in which a bevel angleis made at the same time in which a miter angle is beingcut on a workpiece. Compound cutting can be performedat angle shown in the table. At the miter angle of left 45° and bevel angle of left 45°,workpieces up to 66 mm high and 170 mm wide can becut. At the miter angle of right 45° and bevel angle of left 45°,workpieces up to 66 mm high and 215 mm wide can becut. At the miter angle of left and right 45° and bevel angle ofright 45°, workpieces up to 45 mm high and 215 mmwide can be cut.Miter angle Bevel angleLeft and Right 45° Left and Right 0° – 45°Left 47° Left 0° – 45° and Right 0° – 40°Right 52° Left 0° – 30° and Right 0° – 45° |
