4-1Section 4 MaintenanceSection 4MaintenanceGeneralYou are responsible for maintaining the ice machinein accordance with the instructions in this manual.Maintenance procedures are not covered by thewarranty.WARNINGIf you do not understand the procedures or thesafety precautions that must be followed, call yourlocal service representative to perform themaintenance procedures for you.We recommend that you perform the followingmaintenance procedures at least every six months toensure reliable, trouble-free operation and maximumice production.Ice Machine InspectionCheck all water fittings and lines for leaks. Also, make sure the refrigeration tubing is not rubbing orvibrating against other tubing, panels, etc.Do not put anything (boxes, etc.) in front of the icemachine. There must be adequate airflow throughand around the ice machine to maximize iceproduction and ensure long component life.Exterior CleaningClean the area around the ice machine as often asnecessary to maintain cleanliness and efficientoperation.Sponge any dust and dirt off the outside of the icemachine with mild soap and water. Wipe dry with aclean, soft cloth.A commercial grade stainless steel cleaner/polish canbe used as necessary.Cleaning the CondenserWARNINGDisconnect electric power to the ice machine at theelectric service switch before cleaning thecondenser.AIR-COOLED CONDENSERA dirty condenser restricts airflow, resulting inexcessively high operating temperatures. Thisreduces ice production and shortens component life.Clean the condenser at least every six months. Followthe steps below.WARNINGThe condenser fins are sharp. Use care whencleaning them.1. The washable aluminum filter on self-containedice machines is designed to catch dust, dirt, lintand grease. This helps keep the condenser clean.Clean the filter with a mild soap and watersolution.2. Clean the outside of the condenser with a softbrush or a vacuum with a brush attachment. Cleanfrom top to bottom, not side to side. Be carefulnot to bend the condenser fins.3. Shine a flashlight through the condenser to checkfor dirt between the fins. If dirt remains:A. Blow compressed air through the condenserfins from the inside. Be careful not to bendthe fan blades.B. Use a commercial condenser coil cleaner.Follow the directions and cautions suppliedwith the cleaner.4. Straighten any bent condenser fins with a fincomb.Continued on next page...
