Section 4 MaintenancePart Number 80-1634-3 4-1Section 4MaintenanceGeneralYou are responsible for maintaining the ice machine inaccordance with the instructions in this manual.Maintenance procedures are not covered by thewarranty. We recommend that you perform the followingmaintenance procedures a minimum of once every sixmonths to ensure reliable, trouble-free operation andmaximum ice production.Ice Machine InspectionCheck all water fittings and lines for leaks. Also, makesure the refrigeration tubing is not rubbing or vibratingagainst other tubing, panels, etc.Do not put anything (boxes, etc.) on the sides or back ofthe ice machine. There must be adequate airflowthrough and around the ice machine to maximize iceproduction and ensure long component life.Exterior CleaningClean the area around the ice machine as often asnecessary to maintain cleanliness and efficientoperation. Use cleaners designed for use with stainlesssteel products.Sponge any dust and dirt off the outside of the icemachine with mild soap and water. Wipe dry with aclean, soft cloth.Heavy stains should be removed with stainless steelwool. Never use plain steel wool or abrasive pads. Theywill scratch the panels.Water-Cooled Condenserand Water Regulating ValveSymptoms of restrictions in the condenser water circuitinclude:• Low ice production• High water consumption• High operating temperatures• High operating pressuresIf the ice machine is experiencing any of these symptoms, the water-cooled condenser and water regulating valvemay require cleaning due to scale build-up.Because the cleaning procedures require special pumpsand cleaning solutions, qualified maintenance or servicepersonnel must perform them.AlphaSan®The goal of AlphaSan® is to keep the plastic surfaces ofan ice machine cleaner, by reducing or delaying theformation of bio-film. The active ingredient inAlphaSan® is the element silver in the form of silver ions(Ag+). AlphaSan® slowly releases silver ions via an ionexchange mechanism. When AlphaSan® iscompounded directly into a plastic part, a controlledrelease of silver ions from the surface is regulated tomaintain an effective concentration at or near thesurface of the plastic ice machine part. AlphaSan’s®unique ability to effectively control the release of silvernot only protects against undesired discoloration of theplastic, but also will last the life of the plastic part.Although AlphaSan® helps prevent bio-film build up itdoes not eliminate the need for periodic cleaning andmaintenance. AlphaSan® has no adverse effect on thetaste of the ice or beverage.! WarningIf you do not understand the procedures or thesafety precautions that must be followed, call yourlocal Manitowoc service representative to performthe maintenance procedures for you.! WarningDisconnect electric power to the ice machine andthe remote condensing unit at the electric serviceswitch before cleaning the condenser.
