Printer Messages 8–98 TroubleshootingPrinter MessagesPrinter messages provide useful information forprogress checks and troubleshooting. These messagesare displayed in the following locations• On the printer operator panel• In the Silentwriter Print Monitor display on yourcomputer—whether you are running Windows orDOS.Status MessagesStatus messages appear on the printer operator paneland report normal operating conditions. No action isnecessary. Table 8-1 on page 8-10 lists status messages.Alert MessagesTable 8-2 on page 8-11 lists alert messages. Alertmessages appear on the printer operator panel or on theSilentwriter Print Monitor when a condition occurs thatcauses normal printing to be suspended. Often,operations can be recovered without losing data byremoving the source of the problem. Other conditionsrequire the printer to be turned off and then on again toreset it, in which case, any data is lost.The following printer settings affect how the printerbehaves when certain alert messages occurAuto Continue: This setting determines how theprinter responds if it senses a paper sizediscrepancy, memory overflow, or print overrun.When Auto Continue is set to On, no messageappears on the operator panel display and theprinter continues printing on the paper of theselected cassette. When it is set to Off, a printer alertappears on the operator panel display and printingstops until you correct the problem.Jam Recovery: If this is set to On, the printer willautomatically reprint lost pages of a PostScript printjob after a jam is cleared, as long as you do not turnoff the printer. Jam Recovery can only be set in theoperator panel menu tree.
