Upgrading Your Server 9-27RAID ControllerThis section describes how to use hard disk drives installed in the drive bays in the RAID System.IMPORTANT: Making hard disk drives in the RAID System or changing the RAIDlevel initializes hard disk drives. If the hard disk drive to beconfigured in the RAID System has your valuable data stored, makesure to make a backup copy of the data in another hard disk drivebefore installing the RAID Controller and configuring the RAIDSystem. More than one hard disk drive is required to configure a LogicalDrive. Use hard disk drives of the same capacity and performance (e.g.,revolution) for each pack to configure them in the RAID System.NOTES: Make sure of RAID levels and hard disk drives available for theRAID Controller to choose an appropriate controller. A Logical Drive except for RAID0 increases disk reliability. However, the actually available capacity becomes smaller than thetotal hard disk drive capacity in the Logical Drive. You can build a RAID System by using the Onboard RAID Controller (LSI Embedded MegaRAID)or optional RAID Controller (N8103-116/117/118).
