797. HANDLING OF DISK ARRAY UNITThis chapter describes how to handle the disk array unit.7.1 Notes on Handling of Disk Array UnitNote the following in use of the disk array unit. Invalid handling of the disk array unitmay cause the unit to be defected and/or some data to be broken. If the ACCESS LED (green) flashes, the disk access operation is indicatedon the host system, or the initialization is being operated, do not turnon/off the powers of the disk array unit or host system. Do not reset thehost systems. If the ACCESS LED (green) lights or flashes and the disk accessoperation is indicated on the host system, do not give vibrations andshocks to the disk array unit. Because the disk array unit is a precision device, it shall not be subject tohard vibration or shock. The features of the disk array unit are effective only for the hardware failure(e.g., the hard disk is physically damaged or inoperative). The software failure(e.g., the data is lost or rewritten due to program excursion) is not covered bythese features. When the software failure would occur, the system couldseriously be damaged. To minimize the damage, be sure to back up the dataperiodically. It is recommended that important files are backed up to magnetic tapes. Thisenables the damage to be minimized in case of emergency including suddenvibration or shock and power shutdown caused by power interruption.
