3-34 Configuring the SystemPerforming Partition Only RestoreIf your system comes with a partitioned hard drive and the factorypreinstalled software on drive C: becomes unusable and you cannot bootfrom the hard disk, use the PowerMate Product Recovery CD to restorethe drive C: partition to its initial shipping configuration.Note Systems with the Microsoft Windows NT operating system comewith the hard drive partitioned as two drives. Systems with the MicrosoftWindows 98 SE operating system or the Microsoft Windows 2000operating system come with the hard drive as one drive.Use the Partition Only restore option only if yourhard drive consists of multiple partitions and if drive C: contains theoperating system and related drivers. Move all other data and applicationsfrom drive C: to other partitions (drives) or the Partition Only restoreprocess will erase them completely.The Partition Only restore option deletes all files on drive C: and replacesthem with the original factory installed files. Only use the Partition Onlyrestore option if the preinstalled software on drive C: is unusable.If you have any question about performing a Partition Only restore, NECComputers suggests that you contact Technical Support Services beforestarting the restore procedure. Disconnect all peripherals and power on the system.Before using the Product Recovery CD, enter theBIOS Setup utility, record your current settings, and restore the BIOSdefault settings. Save the default settings before exiting the BIOS Setuputility.2. Load the PowerMate Product Recovery CD for your system into theCD-ROM drive. Reboot your system.
