Installing Options 5-21PROCESSOR UPGRADEThe zero-insertion force (ZIF) socket accepts a modifiedstaggered pin-grid-array (SPGA) processor, along with aprogrammable voltage regulator for the CPU core. Itprovides you with a performance upgrade path to PentiumPro OverDrive technology. The voltage regulatorprogramming is automatic and controlled by the VID pinsof the processor.! CAUTIONIncorrect installation of the processor can damagethe processor, system board, or both. Follow theinstallation instructions carefully. The system requires a heatsink on the OverDriveprocessor. Verify that you have the correct heatsinkfor the processor. When upgrading the processor, first remove the processorcurrently installed in the system, then install the OverDriveprocessor.Removing the ProcessorRemove the processor installed on the system board asfollows.1. Remove the system unit cover.2. Locate the processor socket (see the figure “Systemboard sockets and connectors” earlier in this chapter). If any expansion boards are obstructing the socket, remove the boards.3. Release the heatsink clip from the tabs on the socket.
