3-4 Understanding System FeaturesSystem MemoryThe system comes with 16 MB (32 MB SCSIconfiguration) of system memory. Four sockets on thesystem board support up to 256 MB of high-speed memoryusing industry-standard tin-plated single in-line memorymodules (SIMM).NOTEYou may install AVL approved, 60-ns, parity, fast page mode (FPM) SIMMs into the SIMMsockets. To optimize the 64-bit memory path, install memory inmatching pairs. The system supports the following 72-pinSIMM sticks:n 1-MB by 32- or 36-bit SIMM (4-MB stick)n 2-MB by 32- or 36-bit SIMM (8-MB stick)n 4-MB by 32- or 36-bit SIMM (16-MB stick)n 8-MB by 32- or 36-bit SIMM (32-MB stick)n 16-MB by 32- or 36-bit SIMM (64-MB stick)Interrupt ControllerThe interrupt controller operates as an interrupt managerfor the entire system environment. The controller acceptsrequests from peripherals, issues interrupt requests to theprocessor, resolves interrupt priorities, and provides vectorsfor the processor to determine which interrupt routine toexecute. The interrupt controller has priority assignmentmodes that can be reconfigured at any time during systemoperations.
