NEC SL1100 Issue 6.0Networking Manual 13 - 3S ECTION 2 S YSTEM C APACITYSL Net allows a maximum of five systems to be networked together withoutexceeding a maximum of 168 ports (below Version 3500) or 256 ports (Version3500 and above) in the entire network. The 168 port capacity (below Version 3500)or 256 ports (Version 3500 and above) is a sum of station and trunk ports in allnodes. When the capacity is exceeded, all systems will enter a standalone mode andwill not be able to communicate with each other. At this point the systems can onlyutilize resources within their own location. Below is an example showing a networkthat exceeds the 168 port maximum capacity when site 5 is added to the network. With Version 3500 or higher the maximum capacity has increased to 256. The belowexample is showing a system that has a version lower than Version 3500.When the capacity is exceeded, an alarm report is generated and the message “SLNet port over” is displayed on an operator phone. To restore the network, so allsystems can communicate with each other, the system totals need to be broughtbelow the 168 ports (below Version 3500) or 256 port (Version 3500 and above)maximum. After the necessary ports (station or trunk) are removed from a system, arestart of the SL1100 is required. Every time a system in an SL Net network is reset,a port count is performed. If the network port count is below 168 ports (belowVersion 3500) or 256 port (Version 3500 and above), all systems are allowed tocommunicate. InMail ports are not counted against the 168 port (below Version 3500) or 256 port (Version3500 and above) maximum capacity.Figure 13-1 System Capacity Diagram
