Optimizing Printer Performance B–1Optimizing PrinterPerformanceUpgrading to a more powerful CPU (i.e. 80386 to a80486) will of course improve performance, but thisis not practical for everyone. Here are some othersuggestions.1. Add more memory.SuperScript requires a minimum of 4MB memoryon your PC, the same amount Microsoft recom-mends for Windows 3.1. However, adding morePC memory gives NEC SuperScript additional“breathing room”. The additional memoryreduces the overhead of having to manage limitedspace, and also allows more resources to runother Windows applications while you print.2. Close unneeded applications. This will free up memory and improveSuperScript’s performance.3. Use GDI mode wherever possible. When Windows applications print to conven-tional printers, they translate their output descrip-tion into a printer language. GDI mode savestime by converting objects directly into printableimages. The result is faster printing. Althoughthe quality of GDI output varies by application,GDI mode works especially well for text outputand certain graphics. Try GDI with yourdocuments to see if it meets your requirements.B
