Brush ashes to the grate where they will drop into the ash pan. Replace the grate cover after asheshave been removed.When burning solid fuel, always empty the ash pan at least once a day or whenever it is full of ashes. Never allow the ashpan to overfill thereby allowing ash to be in contact with the underside of the grate. If this condition is allowed, the grate willwear out prematurely. Using the door handle to open the ash pan door, remove the ash pan and dump ashes into a metalcontainer when cool. Replace the grate cover after ashes havebeen removed.DISPOSAL OF ASHES: Ashes should be kept in a metal containerwith a tight fitting lid. Keep the closed container on a non-combus-tible floor or ground, well away from all combustible materials. Theashes should be retained in the closed container until all cindershave thoroughly cooled. Cold wood ashes can be used on thegarden or in the compost.Check your chimney and chimney connector for creosote and soot buildup weekly until a safe frequency forcleaning is established.
