ENW415-1399 / C / 08.16.1827venting installation4.1 horizontal installation4.2 vertical installation 16.2AThis application occurs when venting through an exteriorwall. Having determined the correct height for the airterminal location, cut and frame a hole in the exterior wall,as illustrated, to accommodate the firestop assembly. Dryfi t the firestop assembly before proceeding to ensure thebrackets on the rear surface fit to the inside surface of thehorizontal framing. The vent shield must be installed to the full depth of thecombustible wall. The length of the vent shield may cutshorter for combustible walls that less than 6” (152mm)thick.A. Apply a bead of caulking (not supplied) around thecorner edge of the inside surface of the firestopassembly, fit the fi restop assembly to the hole andsecure using 4 screws.B. Once the vent pipe is installed in its final position, apply red RTV silicone (W573-0002) (not supplied)between the pipe and the firestop.Bend the tabs for reduced side clearances or movethe shield for reduced top clearances. Do not fillthe air space between the firestop spacer and theexterior wall with any type of insulating material (i.e.spray foam).note:DETERMINETHECORRECTHEIGHTCAULKINGFIRESTOPSPACERVENTSHIELDFINISHINGMATERIALCAULKINGnote:The above is for illustration purposes only. WARNING16.5AThis application occurs when venting through a roof. Installation kits forvarious roof pitches are available from your authorized dealer / distributor.See the “accessories” section to order specifi c kits required.A. Determine the air terminal location, cut and frame a square opening,as illustrated, in the ceiling and the roof to provide the minimum 1"(25mm) clearance between the vent pipe and any combustible material.Try to center the vent pipe location midway between two joists toprevent having to cut them. Use a plumb bob to line up the center ofthe openings. A vent pipe shield will prevent any materials such asinsulation, from fi lling up the 1" (25mm) air space around the pipe. Nailheaders between the joist for extra support.B. Apply a bead of caulking (not supplied) to the framework or to theWolf Steel vent pipe shield plate or equivalent (in the case of a finishedceiling), and secure over the opening in the ceiling. A firestop must beplaced on the bottom of each framed opening in a roof or ceiling thatthe venting system passes through. Apply a bead of caulking all aroundand place a firestop spacer over the vent shield to restrict cold air frombeing drawn into the room or around the fireplace. Ensure that bothspacer and shield maintain the required clearance to combustibles.Once the vent pipe is installed in its final position, apply red RTVsilicone (W573-0002) (not supplied) between the pipe and the firestopassembly.C. In the attic, slide the vent pipe collar down to cover up the open endof the shield and tighten. This will prevent any materials, such asinsulation, from fi lling up the 1" (25mm) air space around the pipe.CaulkingVent PipeShieldVentPipeShieldVentPipeCollarFirestopundersideof joist14"(35.5cm)14"(35.5cm)
