Chapter 3 MaintenanceNI PXI-1010 Chassis User Manual 3-2 ni.comExterior CleaningClean the exterior surfaces of the chassis with a dry lint-free cloth or asoft-bristle brush. If any dirt remains, wipe with a cloth moistened in a mildsoap solution. Remove any soap residue by wiping with a cloth moistenedwith clear water.Cautions Do not use abrasive compounds on any part of the chassisAvoid getting moisture inside the chassis during exterior cleaning.Do not wash the front- or rear-panel connectors or switches. Cover these components whilecleaning the chassis.Do not use chemical cleaning agents: they may damage the chassis. Avoid chemicals thatcontain benzene, toluene, xylene, acetone, or similar solvents.PXI Subsystem Fan Filter CleaningTo easily remove the chassis cooling filters from the rear of the chassis, remove the plastic housing attached to each fan.To clean the fan filters, wash them in a mild soap solution and then vacuumor blow air through them. Rinse the filters with water and allow them to drybefore reinstalling them onto the chassis.SCXI Subsystem Fan Filter CleaningThe fan on the rear of the SCXI subsystem cools the SCXI subsystem andits modules. To keep the fan effective, the fan filters must be clean. Dustand dirt accumulation reduces airflow, which makes the inside of thechassis hotter, shortening the life of the chassis and modules. Complete thefollowing steps to clean the fan filters:1. Power off the chassis.2. Remove the power cable from the power-entry module.3. Place the chassis face down on a flat surface so that the fan is on top.If the chassis is so heavily cabled that you cannot practically place it inthis position, leave the chassis as it is but be careful to support the fanduring removal and reinstallation to prevent breaking the fan wires. To remove the fan filter, remove the four screws that secure the fan andfilter to the rear of the chassis. When removing the last screw, becareful to hold the fan to prevent breaking the fan wires.Artisan Technology Group - Quality Instrumentation ... Guaranteed | (888) 88-SOURCE | www.artisantg.com
