Conventions Used In This Guide8 Netscape Directory Server Installation Guide • May 2002• Directory Server Console—An improved management console thatdramatically reduces the effort of setting up and maintaining your directoryservice. The directory console is part of Netscape Console, the commonmanagement framework for Netscape servers.• SNMP Agent—Permits you to monitor your directory server in real time usingthe Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).• Online backup and restore—Allows you to create backups and restore frombackups while the server is running.Conventions Used In This GuideThis section explains the conventions used in this book.Monospaced font—This typeface is used for any text that appears on the computerscreen or text that you should type. It is also used for filenames, functions, andexamples.The greater than symbol (>) is used as a separator for successive menu selections.For example, Object > New > User means that you should pull down the Objectmenu, drag the mouse down to highlight New, and drag the mouse across to theNew submenu in which you must select User.Throughout this book you will see path references of the form:/usr/netscape/servers/slapd-serverID/...The /usr/netscape/servers directory is the default installation directory. If youhave installed Directory Server in a different location, you should adapt the pathaccordingly. serverID represents the server identifier you gave the server when youinstalled it. For example, if you gave the server an identifier of phonebook, then theactual path would be:/usr/netscape/servers/slapd-phonebook/. . .All paths specified in this manual are in the UNIX format.NOTE Notes and Cautions mark important information.
