110Shooting Options: The Shooting MenuShooting, Playback and Setup MenusG AF-Area ModeUse this option to determine where the camera focuses.When digital zoom is in effect, the camera will focus on the subject in the centerfocus area regardless of the applied AF area mode option.Set to A / B M d (Shooting menu) M G AF area modez Face priority (default setting)The camera automatically detects and focuses on aface looking toward the camera (see “Shooting withFace Priority” (A112) for more information).If the camera detects multiple faces, the camerafocuses on the face closest to the camera.When shooting pictures of subjects other thanpeople, or framing a subject with which no face isrecognized, AF area mode will be set to Auto. Thecamera chooses the focus areaw AutoCamera automatically selects the focus area (one ofnine) containing the subject closest to the camera.Press the shutter-release button halfway to activatethe focus area.When the shutter-release button is pressed halfway,the focus area selected by the camera will bedisplayed in the monitor.x ManualThis option is suited to situations in which theintended subject is relatively still and not positionedin the center of the frame. Press the rotary multiselector H, I, J or K to select one of 99 focus areasdisplayed in the monitor’s focus-area selection screen,and shoot.To end focus-area selection and adjust the flashmode, macro mode, self-timer and exposurecompensation settings, press the k button.
